You love living in the past?

Why wouldn't you want the 2009 maps? They are likely free if your GPS came with the 2008. I know I just updated. Just note that the download+install process will take a few hours.

Depends on where you live. Do you live someplace where the roads are constantly changing or there's tons of development going on? If they're free then obviously take 'em. Otherwise I'd save the $100.

Be aware that they may not have roads that have been built in the past couple of years because of the time required to get them into the database. There are roads around Lexington, Ky that are in developements that are over 10 years old that are not in my 2007 maps on my Magellan.

PurdueRy,
they are not free they give you a short time frame ,i think if you bought the gps in the last 60 days then its free if not then you pay for the upgrade.

...thanks for the link timekeeper.

Does anyone know if i can update both my gps units from the single dvd ? or would I have to purchase 2 updates ?

I bought mine in Late Nov/Early Dec and just upgraded for free in early may.

You might want to check to see if your eligible.

Please give us the details on how you accomplished this, as it is clearly outside their free upgrade window.

https://my.garmin.com/maps/updates.htm

It's down as of this post. But I went there, it asked for my serial number. I typed that in and it told me to download a plugin. I did so and connected up my Garmin. It went through a brief detection of the device and then offered me the maps download.

You got very lucky, the map update page was up for about eight hours with a bug that was allowing anyone a free update.

Good timing!
