Also, VW recommends oil that meets 502.00 standards. So... I guess to maintain the warranty I'll have to use synthetic oil in this one. Not looking forward to $60 oil changes myself or $100 to have someone do it for me... maybe I can talk the price down more because of that too.

Recommend or require? The current V6 Altima actually "recommends" Nissan Ester oil which is $12/quart, so you're looking at a $60 oil change and that's if you do it yourself. Schedule I use calls for an oil change every 3750, too! Schedule II is 7500. Most people obviously are not using the overpriced Ester stuff, though, or changing at 3750.

I had oil changes and tire rotations included with my Altima for the duration of the lease. I don't think they counted on me putting so many miles on the car with a 12k mile lease, so they only charged me $7/mo extra for it.

Well... fuel mileage isn't that big a concern anymore... got 30.5 mpg with a mix of city and highway on my first fillup. Same driving pattern that I was getting 28-29 in my Altima.

I guess I'll see if I can keep it around there once I get accustomed to the car and my foot gets heavier.

If you want better gas mileage (ie > 21/29) you'll have to work at it and that requires a manual transmission. I think I would have gotten a Ford Focus.

"It has been tested to meet the 502. To get on VW's "Approved" list, AMSOIL would have to pay VW and I doubt that will happen.

You are covered by AMSOIL's written warranty if there is an oil related problem. As long as you are able to show the oil met the 502 and, you can, as it is on the label and you will have the receipt showing which oil you purchased."

- Confirmation from an Amsoil employee that while it doesn't carry the certification, it meets all the requirements of a 502.00 oil.
