2009 Jaguar XF

The front end of that car almost looks Buick-ish to me. The rear does look very nice though...seems to be very XK-inspired.

A little disappointing to see that they are still using the same engine from the last few generations. The 4.2L V8 is a good motor but could use some updating to compete with the likes of Mercedes and BMW.

Wow...what an improvement over the current POS S-series. Wonder what it drives like though...and I agree that the front end looks like a Buick Lucerne.

300hp for a base model...and 420hp for the supercharged is plenty nice for that category...especially with a 500hp version stated as in the pipeline.

I'm hoping it drives as good as it looks. I like that they got rid of the "J" shifter and actually put some cool if gimmicky features like that gear shifter in place. I like to see a car company attempting something new.

The supercharged and N/A engines found in the new S-Type R are not much different from those in the XK from 1997. In the meantime, BMW have upgraded engine technology with advancements such as double VANOS, and MB have switched from forced induction to larger displacement N/A motors. In the meantime, Jaguar have pretty much stayed at a plateau in terms of engine technology.

from the A pillar back is how the 5 series should look.

the front really does look like a buick.

the rear seat looks a bit flat.

Well, at the very least, it's a huge improvement aesthetically over the old S-type. That's not saying much, but it does look pretty good.

I do like that center console though.

Looks good from behind. Front and side are awful, and the interior is completely un-inspired. C- in styling, and that's only because of the spectacular tail-lights.

They totally botched the front! It looks like a Maxima. And I'll bet you dollars to donuts that the front grill is plastic like it is on the XK.

Very disappointing job by Jag.

Edit There was a Buick parked in the parking garage this morning. KrunchyKrome's right, the front looks just like a Buick.

Well, comparing a sedan to a coupe isn't really fair. And I personally think the Jaguar XK coupe (particularly in XKR trim) is a more graceful take on the classic GT than is the AM Vantage (no comparison when it comes to the AM interior though).

The problem for Jaguar's XF is that it's meant to be a four door coupe design and there it's competing with the Mercedes-Benz CLS, which is an unqualified design success.

The upcoming 2009 Audi A7 is a better example of an alternate take on the four door coupe. The 2008 Aston Martin Rapide shows what the XF could have looked like.
