2009 Hyundai Genesis....

that V8 seems to weigh a lot more than it should. 400 lbs more than the V6? going from a 6 to an 8 in the mustang costs only 150 lbs. and unless those numbers are typos, the V6 doesn't put out much torque for how big it is.

edit: bmw 5 series adds a whopping 450 lbs going from the 528 to 550, so maybe it's not that out of line.

Do you mean the engine or the entire car? Bigger engine with more power usually calls for a beefier transmission, then you have to think about features that become standard with the more expensive engine.

Also bigger discs and brakes, potentially bigger rims etc. etc.

seeing as the stang v6 is 4.0 compared to a 3.8 and the Hyundai gets much more hp and only 7 less torque. kinda hard to compare the two.

i like the little asshat comments on the blog... some people....eh i cannot even comment on it... they would buy a turd wrapped in tinfoil if it had a BMW emblem on it... as if BMW is the only car maker that can make anything right... idiots. sames ones are taking theirs to the shop 3 -4 times a year, still claiming its the best...

i guess if i shit out gold ingots and snorted with 100s i could act the same way

EDMUNDs seemed to like it.

Vehicle Tested:
2009 Hyundai Genesis 4dr Sedan

"Bottom Line:
Your socks had better be firmly affixed or the Genesis will blow them clean off; there isn't a better rear-wheel-drive sport sedan for the money."

I can't wait for this car, personally. I would say I am brand aware, and to an extent, a littel brand-biased, but I also love value. The Autoblog article really underscored the value they saw in this car. If it's as balanced in features and performance at the price as they wrote, I can't see myself not buying one.

I'm holding my breath to see what you actually get at the $33k point, though.

Autoblog also had a very detailed and favorable review...after seeing it all season at the auto shows, I'm interested in seeing one on the road.

Pretty bold statement...

Compared to what? I'd rather have the G8.

So would I, but the G8 isn't exactly in the luxurious segment.

At least it's an original design on its own merits, not a knockoff of various luxury cars.
That's what Kia did with the Amanti, and Genesis is following in those footsteps. It looks like a Chinese knock off car to me.
I think they really blew an opportunity to advance their own brand. They should have either done an original bold design of their own or contracted it out to a company like Italdesign, which is what Lexus did with the original GS.

I want to love it. I will certainly be test driving it when it comes out. Unfortunately I feel this car is going to be the victim of bad timing. My reasons...

People who are interested in this car are not going to be brand conscious or have unlimited budgets...it is going to be people who are looking for the best bang for their buck...which the car returns in spades...except that those same people have also added "fuel efficient" to their criteria of "bang for their buck".

People who are brand conscious are going to go German or Japanese
People who have unlimited budgets will likely still go German as they really are still the best if you don't care about money.
People who want something that is cheap and geared only toward performance will buy a G8
People who are worried about fuel costs will get something smaller with a smaller engine (TSX, etc.)

I hope this does work out well for Hyundai...they have certainly put in the effort...I just fear that it is just at the wrong time. 5 years ago...I think this would have taken off.

It's a beautiful car, but I don't think Hyundai is at the point where it can compete in the luxury sports sedan segment.

Exactly the same was said of Lexus when that brand was launched. Now look at them.

Lexus is a high end brand in the Toyota family. Same with Acura, infiniti, etc. Hyundai cannot compete in both the entry level market (Sonata, Accord, Camry) and in the Luxury market (BMW, Acura, Infiniti, Lexus, Mercedes). Hyundai should create a new luxury brand to compete in this market.
