2009 Honda Pilot - Disable Alarm

I was in a hotel last night staying in a room on the ground floor.

Around 3AM I heard a horn start beeping w/lights flashing for about 5 seconds and then stop (right outside my room). It woke me up, but since it stopped so quickly, I went back to sleep. I just figured that somebody accidently set their alarm off and then turned it off quickly. It was not my car alarm sound.

In the morning, the person in the next room who owned a 2009 Honda Pilot (w/factory alarm system) had its rear passenger door glass broken and the car was ransacked for easily 10 or more minutes. Because of the larger packages that were removed, one or more of the car doors had to be opened.

I started to wonder why the alarm only went off for 5 seconds and then stopped. I checked the battery and horn wires. Both were intact and functioning correctly. I even tried the alarm afterwards by lowering the driver’s window and setting the alarm and then opening the driver’s door from the outside. The alarm went off (horn beeping & lights flashing) continually for 3 minutes which is when I stopped it. The owners manual states the alarm would run for 10 minutes and then reset.

Here is my question: The hotel manager said that there is some new electrical device that can shut down a car alarm after a few seconds.

Has anyone heard of some device that can disable a factory alarm? The thieves got around $800 worth of merchandise, which insurance covered.

The device in the news does not set off the alarm. It's just as if they have the key fob.

Setting off the alarm and then shutting the alarm off sounds odd.
