January 2009 brings us the battle of fastest Graphics cards on the market. A Rv775XT core from ATi will be a higher binned, higher clocked rv770 core with 1GB increased vram memory speeds (and perhaps an activated sideport :)) will go into the new 4870X2. Hope it doesn't turn into another SUPER RV770 fiasco. The purpose of the higher binned ati cores is to compete with the recently shrunk 55nm GT200b core from nvidia. This core will be found in the brand new dual chip / dual PCB 289 watt GTX 295 sandwich card fully equipped with 240 SP's per core.

'Speculative' Card specs:

Ati HD4870X2
55nm Rv775xt
Dual gpu / single PCB
Higher binned rv770 cores
Higher domain operating frequencies
800 shaders per core - 1600 Total
Faster GDDR5 memory 1GB x 2 = 2048mb Total
Possible sideport?

Nvidia GTX295
55nm GT200b
Dual gpu / dual PCB sandwich
240 shaders per core - 480 Total
896MB VRAM x 2 = 1782mb Total
-core/shader ratio apparently back to old specs
(yielding higher performance)
-lower power draw
-possible lower core clocks (than single gpu parts) due to heat?
-final core/mem speeds TBA.

Here are some more shots on the GeForce GTX 295 card. Enjoy! Among other things we have confirmed today are 480 SPs, 289W TDP, Quad SLI support. Clock speeds, performance and price still remains a mystery but we will soon find out. Can RV775 X2 card stands against this NV offering?
Personally, I see the GTX295 being the more powerful card, even if Nv has to resort to lower clock speeds to stabilize the big gpu's thermals. It's practically gtx280 sli, like the 9800GX2 is 8800gt sli. Here's to hoping it becomes an Ati Catalyst vs. Nvidia Forceware war! Gotta love that competition!

Who takes the performance crown in January?

When we see benchmarks of real games using real settings then I'll care.

That is all.

Hmm, I'm gonna have to say nV but who knows. All I can think about with RV770 is how hot it gets. If the refinements can push it to 850+ and heat is managable, the fight may continue...

RV775 would have to hit like....1GHz imo to keep up with a faster 55nm GT200b that clocks better. GT200b is the big wheel, each turn of the wheel results in a bigger gain. RV775 is a smaller wheel, so it'll need more RPMs to keep up.

you gotta remember though, plan on the GX2 being clocked lower than the single GPU parts

The 4870x2 fell inbetween a 280 and 280 sli. I would expect the same thing here. The nvidia card is more powerful and in games that see a performance increase from two cards should win.

Yep, true enough but I'm also basing it on the general review concensus that GTX 260 SLI scales much better than 4800CF.

RV775 is not just higher binned RV770.

If you look at the chart. You will RV775Pro and XT with 840SP. 8 more texturing units compared to RV770. Similar to how 4830 has less SP and TMU. Core speed of 900mhz and raised frequency SP processors.

EXPREVIEW even link Anand's Road to ATI's sucess story. :p

AMD has a shot here even taking the crown. Unless Nvidia have tweaked other than a die shrink they are going to be waking with a black eye or 2.
