Dodge will show off its redesigned Ram pickup truck at the Detroit auto show next week. The truck features an all-new exterior design with a more aggressively styled headlight and grille design, plus more powerful engine choices, and a number of new features.

The new flagship motor is a 5.7-liter HEMI V8 that produces 380 hp and 404 pound-feet of torque. The truck will also be available with a 4.7-liter V8 providing 310 horsepower and 330 pound-feet of torque, and a 3.7-liter V6 generating 215 horsepower and 235 pound-feet of torque.

An redesigned chassis made of high-strength steel incorporates an all-new, first-in-segment, multi-link coil spring rear suspension that improves ride and handling characteristics without reducing payload (up to an estimated 1,840 pounds) and towing capability (up to an estimated 9,100 pounds).

The truck features a drastically revamped interior, which reflects Chrysler's growing commitment to interior quality, after years of disappointing cabins. It features six-ring instrumentation, redesigned controls, chrome accents, premium seating with improved bolsters and two-tone upholstery.

The all-new 2009 Dodge Ram is offered in regular cab, Quad Cab and crew cab, with three box lengths: 8-foot (regular cab), 6-foot-4-inches (regular cab and Quad Cab), and a new-for-2009 box length of 5-foot-7-inches (crew cab). Five trim levels are available, each with a unique appearance: ST, SLT, TRX, Sport, and the top-of-the-line Laramie.

 on the exterior design. A nice evolution of the old Ram. Love the coil springs and built-in truck box in the rear fenders.

It's your move Ford!

Is Dodge having a second coming? I think I am beginning to see that Dodge, and quite possibly all of Chrysler, has adapted and is now in the process of their one-up to the upsurge of non-American car sales and their current build qualities. I think Dodge in particular is going to have a great year with the 2009 models, as everything I am seeing now features particularly great sounding build quality, and with their promise of lifetime powertrain warranty on most of their vehicles speaks something to the assured quality and their trust in their quality. I'm looking forward to the revealing of all the specs of all the 2009 models. Could be some good things, and eager to see the avg MPG for all of them. Especially for my parents because they are looking into trucks to replace the rapidly dying van.

I was thinking the *exact* same thing. I hated the style of the new rams. This seems more like a hybrid between the two that has been pulled off splendidly. Definitely a sweet looking pickup IMO

uh? dodge avenger?

and lifetime powertrain warranty is kind of a gimmick. iirc, it's not transferable. maybe it'll attract a few extra people who will actually drive the car for 15 years, but most new car owners trade merely because there is something newer and their car is old to them.

i think i'd rather have the F-150 platinum supercrew.

The Ram looks to be shaping up nicely
The Sebring/Avenger is trash
The Caliber is alright, but hardly selling well and the SRT4 cant compete with industry leaders in handling or looks, it's just a FWD drag rocket.
The Charger/300C is good but could really use a manual and I'm not sure if stability control can be turned off yet.
The Magnum is holding in there sales wise, steady at about 40k a year but that's pretty "meh"
The other trucks are alright, the Vans are not the sales leaders they used to be and the Challenger is automatic only for the 2009 models.
The Viper is a viper, low volume flagship/axe murder as always.
The Crossfire should have died long ago and the PT Cruiser is hardly fresh or cool anymore.
Jeep is Jeep, SUV sales are on the downtrend but it'll be alright. Nothing particularly compelling from that badge though.

Overall, dodge trucks should be fine but of the passenger cars, you cant say any are industry leaders. Some are competitive, but most are not all that great compared to the resurgent GM/Ford and import offerings.
