2008 WRX STI Breaks Cover

That front shot looks awesome and the interior looks great too. No more nasty blue suede-ishniss.

Overall, I like it.

well, based on the numbers in that article, performance will leave little to be desired...though i guess we have to wait on weight numbers to be sure about that.

OMG iDrive!!! 😛

Not bad but it's a little bit too last gen Civic Type R for me. I still prefer my old GF body Impreza.

This is the JDM spec. The US spec may look slightly different, but more importantly we won't get the twin-scroll 2.0L motor. It'll be some mildly updated version of the 2.5L. It wasn't very competitive with the Evo's previous 2.0L IMO, will be interesting to see how the new version stacks up to the Evo's new 2.0L.

Just look at these dyno results:
http://www.motortrend.com/road...mparison/photo_15.html

The Evo's HP curve peaks at 6400 while the Subaru loses steam sharply after 5500. The Subbie motor has a little more torque if you look at the curve as a whole, but the Evo's peak torque comes on earlier and the differences are relatively small. I've driven an Evo MR and it really does pull strongly, not to mention the amazing engineering put into the car's suspension and aerodynamics.

Don't get me wrong - I'm a Subbie fanatic. But Mitsu has the Evo's engineering DOWN. Can't say I'd buy one, but I still respect the hell out of it.

Those are old dyno numbers. Not the new cars. The new Evo as a straight line performer is a disappointment to lots of people but everywhere I read says the handling is much improved. I'm not one for a hatch in any form so I am not going to say it looks great. We will have to wait and see what people run in it to really say anything. People were saying the new Evo was going to kill the IX and look at it now. We can only wait and see.

The JDM Spec STI has an 8000 RPM Redline judging from those pics? What's the point of that when the car makes peak power around 6000 RPM?

While I can't bring myself to like the new Impreza/WRX, the new STi is quite badass. My only real gripe is with the tails. They're terrible. But that's an easy aftermarket fix.

Took a while for me, but at my last service I took a good hard look at them in person and I can say I'm now a fan.

I still think overall I prefer the sedan and wish Subaru had decided to keep that as the STI platform but according to them, the hatch handles much better.

We'll see when we get some numbers.

I figure the hatch would be more aerodynamic than the sedan, and put slightly more weight over the back wheels. So it should perform a tad better.

It's an overall stiffer chassis as well. From what I've heard the reasoning behind the switch was because of Subaru getting their asses handed to them from all the hatches in the WRC.
