Palin was more intelligent than I expected and her voice didn't irritate me that much. The Mom and apple pie stuff was way way too thick for my tastes though. I like her "spunk" and the fact that she's a Washington outsider...but have real difficulty visualizing her as our President if something should happen to McCain.

Biden surprised me...I was impressed with his knowledge, sincerity and passion. I did get pissed though when he blamed the Reps for the financial crisis (both parties were highly culpable IMO). I don't agree with him on several issues, but if he were running for President I would more than likely vote for him rather than any of these other schmucks.

That Washington Outsider bullsh!t? I almost gagged when she mentioned that she was a Washington Outsider. I think it rivals Biden referring to himself in the 3rd person.
But she is an outsider...why do you say that's bullshit? I must be missing something here.

Because she's trying to act like one when in reality, I see no difference except that she acts far less professional and uses easy fourth grade words. That and the whole "folksy" talk. Why is "folksy" talk good? Why do we discourage professional talk? Why was she trying so hard to act like a common person? In doing so, she came off incredibly fake and ungenuine.

At the end of the day this election cycle will have done one thing for me no matter who gets elected. My preconceptions about Biden were wrong. I have a new respect for him even if our opinions on govt are different.

Ditto. In fact, I walked away wondering how the hell the Democrats chose Obama over Biden. If Biden was at the top of the ticket, I could very easily be persuaded to vote against McCain/Palin.

I've been steadily stating for weeks and weeks now, both on this forum and off, that Joe Biden was BY FAR my favorite amongst the four national candidates.

So it certainly makes me feel all warm and tingly all over to see that a least a couple of the more thoughtful posters from "the other side" seeing his intelligence and substance and worth as well.

I know that I heard only one really deep and valuable truth, one that knowing it at the level I do requires me to need constant reminder, and that was the story he told of advise a senator gave him regarding Jessie Helms, namely that one may question policy but one should not question other people's motives and assume they are evil, that sincere and good people can hold different opinions and world views.

That understanding, in my opinion, is absolutely critical to being a genuine and thoughtful human being and vital for the survival of the human race.

It is also, in my opinion, the central thesis and requirement that is at the center of Obama's message of change.

It isn't about reaching across the isle and compromise, as such, or negotiation with people who want to kill you, it is about seeing other people in their humanity and understanding they are driven by some notion of good just as you are.

Hu Ha to you Senator Joe Biden.
So, you think cheney is a decent human being on the inside? Really?

Dick Cheney has a gay daughter. Do you think he loves her?

As of 10/3/08, 4,177 American troops have died in the Bushwhackos' war of LIES in Iraq, and tens of thousands more are wounded, scarred and disabled for life.

With that in mind, I don't give a rat's ass who he loves. Coming from him, it's wasted, saccharin emotion. :|

Mr. Burr was allegedly trying to steal territory from Spain to establish his new country.
Mr. Burr was indicted on charges of treason, but never convicted.

Please read your history before slandering one of our more interesting Founding Fathers. I would much prefer the company of Mr. Burr to that of Mr. Cheney.

I agree. After watching that debate I am DONE giving Palin the benefit of the doubt. I don't view her competent enough to be a mayor...maybe a librarian. Nothing but an empty skirt with cliches, buzzwords, and fake smile.

Biden was awesome in the debate.

I find it interesting how Republicans consistently find ways to lower the bar in their nominees. They are jumping for joy that their VP candidate didn't look like a complete idiot on national television.

Something just doesn't add up.

You mean how some of you guys were saying because McCain didn't blow Obama away in the first debate, that means Obama won?

You realize that's because Obama actually demonstrated a command and knowledge of the issues, right? When most everyone before had said that wasn't possible because he was an 'empty suit' without his teleprompter? And whatdayaknow, he actually went toe-to-toe on the issues against arguably the best foreign policy expert in the Senate. That was unexpected for a lot of people.

While the only thing Palin did was not have another trainwreck. An impressive feat, I suppose, from her interview disasters, but what she did not do was demonstrate that she actually knew anything about the talking points and rhetoric she kept repeating over and over again.

Surely you can see the difference, right?

Anyway, how any real conservative can support the extreme populism coming from McCain/Palin is beyond me. Poor "Joe Six Pack" who was forced by "predator lenders" to buy a house he couldn't afford, and "John McCain's adherence to rules and regulations and pushing for even harder and tougher regulations," and a $5,000 dollar tax credit per family (that's miraculously "budget neutral") for health care and so forth ad naseum. Let's not forget "climate change is real," McCain supports carbon caps, as well as civil unions for gay couples.

Today's Republicans are more libuhral than the Democrats.

I beg to differ. Senator McCain is knowledgeable, but he's no Joseph Biden.

Yeah, I couldn't watch it very long before I felt like I had insects crawling all over me.

In the list of related videos was "Stupid is the new Smart". It's not specifically about mccain's laughable vp pick but can easily be applied. It's pretty damning of the current state of politics. And, I think the voters are just as responsible as the politicians are for this. I wonder how far things have to decline before people wake up.

I don't care if he does or not and don't think it has anything to do with his politics or his motives. Remember, we're supposed to keep families out of political discussions.

Are you losing your touch? Do multiple people post on this account? This "we need to respect each other" stuff is inconsistent with most of the other Moonbeam posts.

And, in case you're getting weak, cheney (et al.) deserves to be swept away screaming like the evil guy was in that nighttime street scene in the movie "ghost".

I've long viewed Peggy Noonan as one of the most kool-aid drinking sellout propagandists for evil in our nation. She is monstrous.

Just this week on the Daily show, Noonan claimed that the level of discourse should be elevated and lamented how candidates were not taking a stand on issues, but then a day later she thinks Palin "killed" even though she didn't really actually answer any questions, and many people were just surprised that she didn't implode.

Famous Person needs a mental health professional.

The second two thirds of the article I quoted many posts above has more meat to it. Noonen's a bright woman and a great writer, though we wouldn't agree on much policy-wise.

Palin did save McCain's ass. Her folksy ways appeal to a lot of people. If she had done poorly, McCain's campaign would have been essentially over. As it is, he appears to be drifting towards defeat, not certain calamity.

Republicans lowered the bar? The Dems selected a slimy piece o' crap Chicago machine politician for their presidential candidate ... it's pretty hard to get lower than that.

Good grief
