Biden was knowledgeable, and he was pretty restrained ? didn?t really say one stupid thing. He did his fair share of saying what he wanted to say without really answering the question. But Palin did that all night. At one point she said something like, ?I'm not going to answer the question the way you or the way the moderator want me to ?.? I was thinking, then why the hell are you here?

I personally don't think Golly-Gee-Wizz talk belongs in a vice presidential debate. It makes it feel like I cannot trust what she is saying. It takes away from the substance of what she says. I'm not looking for her to connect with soccer moms, I'm looking for leadership and a firm grasp of the issues this country needs to concentrate on. Golly Gee Wizz Beaver, did you do your chores? - has little place in the politics of high office.

Her incessant, almost overly excessive reading of her crib notes gave her little room for her golly gee wizz comments.

To paraphrase a columnist in today's paper (and this matches my observation), her answer to ANY question contained one (or some combination of) the following statements:

1. McCain is a maverick.
2. The surge worked.
3. Drill.
4. Taxes are bad.
5. This election is about ordinary people.

This is a short, easy to remember list. Pretty much any 6th grader could master it after several weeks of indoctrination by experienced political handlers.

ha....I particularly noticed 1 and 3. How she managed to turn every single question into "McCain is a maverick, just look at my record on energy in Alaska!", I'll never know.

Point is, all I hear from everyone is McCain/Palin bashing (Palin more so). If Obama is so great, why aren't they talking about how great he is vs how bad the Rep ticket it? Obama is just ABB, just like Kerry.

Did you even listen to the VP debate? Biden couldn't stop talking about Obama :p

Selective hearing.

That damn maverick drinking game... ugh still weathering a hangover today. Good thing I had a bottle of aspirin next to my desk.

Palin was more intelligent than I expected and her voice didn't irritate me that much. The Mom and apple pie stuff was way way too thick for my tastes though. I like her "spunk" and the fact that she's a Washington outsider...but have real difficulty visualizing her as our President if something should happen to McCain.

Biden surprised me...I was impressed with his knowledge, sincerity and passion. I did get pissed though when he blamed the Reps for the financial crisis (both parties were highly culpable IMO). I don't agree with him on several issues, but if he were running for President I would more than likely vote for him rather than any of these other schmucks.

I don't like this. It makes me uncomfortable in regards to how our system of checks and balances are supposed to work. It makes me believe that she is striving for more power in the Senate. Our country heavily depends on our system of checks and balances for survival and I really do not want anything to damage that which includes allowing the VP to have too much power and influence over the Senate. There is a proper balance to maintain and Palin just doesn't strike me as the type who believes in the kind of balance which I think is best for this country especially which makes statements like that combined with her history of how she prefers to use her power.

Thanks goodness Biden said, in a hugely watched television debate filled with caution, Dick Cheney is the most dangerous VP in history. That's a remarkable comment in that forum.

That Washington Outsider bullsh!t? I almost gagged when she mentioned that she was a Washington Outsider. I think it rivals Biden referring to himself in the 3rd person.

Even if she had the same power, which she won't (Cheney's authority was derived from Bush's executive orders), she wouldn't do anything with it.
Then why even fill such a potentially important office with someone so unqualified? It would be more appropriate to leave the office vacant - although with some of this caliber, it would appear to be vacant anyways.

Insurance policy against domestic assassination. And its not an important office no matter how you slice it.

Your logic is a bit off. Maybe someone who is assassinating the president wants to hurt the country, so a bad VP would add to the incentive.

I find it a bit humorous that the default assumption today, after Bush, is that the person who shoots the president is trying to protect the country, so a bad VP is insurance.

It's 99% unimportant except in the extremely rare case where it's 100% important.

It's not 1% - 10% of presidents are assassinated in office, more are disabled.

Yep. That's why he beat out a great opponent (Hillary) in the primary. That's why there's record numbers of people registering to vote. That's why he's breaking records in fund raising. It's because he's not Bush. Get a clue FFS.

Because of the way she is spinning it. She is trying to sell to us that because she is an "outsider" that the chances of things changing in Washington increased by a ton. That's the bullshit.

Funny you bring that up. Palin, at least, wouldn't lead us into another Vietnam the way Lyndon Johnson did after Kennedy was shot.

Are you honestly sitting their behind your computer writing me a response believing that these limited words are the only reason I feel that way? You believe I have no historical evidence about Palin which supports that extremely generalized statement? Give me break! We have been discussing this crazy power hungry woman from Alaska for over a month now. I didn't feel the need to rehash all of that shit just so I can provide you with a book which you call a "post". You either already know why I said what I said and disagree with me or you have been asleep for over a month and assume that the debate last night was my first taste of Sarah Palin. Either way, your response is completely out in left field.

Palin proved to be incompetent in the last couple weeks, so everyone is just rooting for her to not fuck up. Now, even though Biden clearly was the better debater everyone is giving palin a ton of credit simply because she didn't F up. she only used her talking points for the most part, and when she went on a tangent, it was about how she wished the VP spot had more power, giving more power to the executive branch. wtf? im surprised not many ppl picked up on this but this was where biden gets the most credit, pointing out cheney was a terrible VP.

The bars weren't set equally for either candidates, and I think the debate mod did a terrible job in following up with her answers. Its sad that facts and discourse doesn't really matter, but how you exceed people's expectations

This is one of my biggest gripes about what America is turning to- a nation of pussies. An "Everybody wins" mentality that is destroying this great country. Now we have intellectual lightweights running for the Presidency and winning.
