This car looks to be high on my purchase list, and I can get a pretty screaming deal of around 32K for it right now. Anyone else have one? How does the S compare to the base?

Didn't you just buy an Accord or something?
Sounds like a great deal as the 09's start rolling in.
I don't know anyone w/the Type S, but ppl with the base TL love them.

Yup, bought the Accord in March. That ones going to the wife and Im replacing her old Civic with this one.
There's tons of base/nav around here, but only a few type S. I figure for an extra 1500, I'd can get a big power boost, better mileage, and neater wheels.

Are you going for the 6spd? If not, look at a Maxima. They look pretty nice and 290 hp is nothing to sneeze at. If you want a stick though, Honda makes some good ones and sadly, you can't even get em in the Max anymore.

My parents have the base and my old boss has the S. The S looks a lot better IMO, but I never noticed that big a difference besides the S having a harsher ride and a little more power. The S also gets worse mileage from what I've witnessed.

the type s looks great and is decked out. the stock type s rims are one of the best i've seen on a car. from the website i think it gets some more HP and those appearance upgrades and fuel econ says it gets the same mpg, but who knows

Well the performance version of a car USUALLY gets worse than the base but hell what do I know.

get the type a or you'll regret it later. 32k is a screaming deal and the 09 is hideous looking.

The STi is a great car but they're in no way comparable. I don't think too many people cross-shop these cars, and each can do things the other can't (not necessarily from a performance standpoint, but from a practicality standpoint).

We got our TL-S (black) this in May and have been quite happy with it. My only aggravation right now is the rattle that come from the sub. The wife swears up and down she can't hear it but I know it is rattling. It happens within a certain frequency range so it's not doing it the entire time.

The mileage has been ok with it, but it's starting to improve a fair bit now. It was getting 16-17 in the city when we first got it (it doesn't have a chance to get on the highway unless we take a little road trip or head into Charlotte) but now she's getting about 20-22 with in town driving.
When we do hit the highway, we get around 29-31mpg.

It doesn't have the acceleration of the G35, but it's better on gas, from what I have been told, and has a fair bit more room in the back than the G should that be a concern of yours. It still has nice power and it sounds great.

That's a smokin deal for that TL-S. I would do it just based on that. It's got all of the options. The radio/Navi really is nice and the system sounds very nice. The only other options for you would be the different wheels.

That's a great value for 32k. Don't get the base, do yourself a favor and get the Type S. I think you would like it.

As far as folks talking about torque steer, it really isn't that bad. It's there but it doesn't wreck the driving experience.

TL-S is a great car for the money, if you compare similar cars for similar specs you will not find a car in the 32k!

Rattles are well known for all the acuras / hondas

Sub Rattle - is fixed by a TSB which they take down the panel and add a foam liner or something, that helps reduce the "rattle"

acurazine.com is where I hang out and there are a lot of problem fixes on that site.

Get what you like. Taste is subjective. I liked the G35, but not well enough.

The OP said he would get better mileage over the base going with the S, and I was just stating that I haven't seen that.

Yea seriously, someone shopping for a TL-S wouldn't even look at a STI.

i dunno why they wouldnt cross shop it... or, at least the wrx wagon... the suby hatchbacks has far more practicality with awd and larger cargo space (14cuft vs 12.5cuft... 44.4cuft if rear seats down, the tl-s only has a little hole opening, seats cant fold down)... but i guess ppl still like sedans for some unknown reason :)

09 TL will be out shortly...probably pay more but the 08 is last gen. 09 is redesigned...the NAV before rocked and what I've seen of the new version of the NAV is pretty badass.

Auto. The wife didn't want to learn a manual. I really wanted the 6MT, but this is her daily driver.

QFT. I have a TL and had high hopes for the 09. I'm very dissapointed with the new look... if only the current gen had AWD, they'd likely have had some aftermarket support to put it on par with the likes of an BMW M or Mercedes AMG. The current TLs are among the best looking sedans on the road, i only wish they had the performance to hang with the big boys.

As for the comment on a TL vs an STI, I hope you were kidding. I don't care how quick it is in the twisties, i'd prefer the ride/interior of a TL any day over an STI. That and i'm not about to drive my boss or clients around in an (albeit sporty) econobox.

I got a 2006 TL a few months back. It has been very good so far. I was surprised at how much the women I've had in it love the thing. They go hypersonic when they see the navigation system.

I don't want another car without a nav system, the thing is so freakin handy it's unbelievable. It could be improved, but just as it is, it's great.

The TL is really more about the toys than it is a real performance car. But still, it's nice to drive, good handling and braking. Acceleration is mediocre, maybe slightly better in a TL-S, but probably not that much in reality. It is consistently over 30 mpg on the highway, usually low 30's @70-75mph, with around 24 MPG in town with a light touch on the throttle.

Very comfortable seats for a long trip. I can actually put a couple of full size people in the back seat, as opposed to the midget-gymnasts that could fit in the back of my Mustang.

I got XM radio for it also, I recommend that. I like Squizz, Verge, and the comedy channels. The factory iPod connector sucks. There are some better aftermarket connectors, but I'm having a hard time with allowing some dumbass to disassemble my dash to connect it. I know there would be rattles afterward.

The dual zone climate control is a great feature. It should allow different fan speeds in the different zones though.

There is a little torque steer under full throttle, but it's not a problem in general driving. The car makes up for torque steer with nice space efficiency. I love RWD, but the large trunk and back seat are really more useful in a daily driver. I don't go around racing people anymore anyway.

I'm very disappointed in the styling of the new 2009 TL. It may be a superior car in many ways, but bad styling trumps the upgrades.

My 2006 TL was $24k + TTL with 15k miles, nav and AT about 3 months ago. Your deals will get better the longer you can stand to wait for a 2008, but it's a risk of course that someone else will get the car you want, and they won't be getting any more.
