BMW has released official images of the 2007 Mini Cooper (Mk II). As previously reported, the car will be offered in Mini Cooper (120 hp) and Cooper S (175 hp) guise. Both cars are powered by a 1.6 liter four-cylinder engine. The Mini Cooper reaches its peak 120 horsepower output at 6,000 rpm and peak torque of 118 lb-ft at 4,250 rpm. It features Valvetronic technology for an added edge over the previous model. The turbocharged Cooper S makes 175 hp at 5,500 rpm, and peak torque of 177 lb-ft comes at just 1,600 rpm. While the 2.76-inch-longer exterior is mostly evolutionary, BMW describes the new interior as "revolutionary." For increased safety, curtain airbags now protect all passengers. More details are expected soon. For now, have a look at the gallery after the jump?

I can't see a single exterior difference between this and the current models. I own a 2005 s-model.

Turn signal in the head light, the hood is pushed out a bit in the front, new rear fogs, the lower part of the boot is slightly flatter, the top is slightly more angled. But yeah, there wasn't much done, I think it's mainly for the new european hood requirements.

EDIT: Good luck changing that radio :Q

As oc Oct. 05 the EU has been rating cars against pedistrian accidents as well as normal crashes, and the current MINI gets poor results: http://www.euroncap.com/content/safety_ratings/details.php?id1=1&id2=112

Here is a story of the legislation: http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn/A12616-2005Feb9?language=printer

For those who currently drive the mini, how do you like the speedo in the center? Do you have to turn your head to read it?

Actually... that looks pretty good. I'm still in conflict over those headlights, but otherwise it looks great.

Those audio controls on the steering wheel look like they fell off a game controller.

Actually...the whole thing just screams Fisher Price/toy to me. A lot of really goofy plastic nobs and buttons.

Switched to a turbo huh? That'll be interesting I think. Still looks pretty much the same, but I'm impressed with the extra weight savings in addition to a little bit more power. I want one sooo bad.
