Honda is launching an all-new CR-V, and the new trucklet will go on sale in October, wearing a $21,400 base sticker price.

The small SUV is slightly larger in most dimensions, and interior space has been re-apportioned. There's less volume overall, but more hip room in front and two cubic feet more cargo space. Four trim levels are offered, up from two, including an EX with leather and XM radio for the first time. It will also be offered with Honda's touch-screen, voice-command navigation system. The LX model, with standard 160-watt stereo and MP3-player jack, is the model that will start in the low-$20,000 range. With nav and the 270-watt subwoofer stereo (which includes a compact flash card slot) the sticker will likely approach $28,000.

The engine remains a 2.4-liter VTEC four, with an increase of 10 peak horsepower (to 166, with 161 pound-feet of torque) thanks largely to a slight increase in compression. The manual transmission has been dropped, the only available trans is a five-speed automatic.

what the HELL is going on with that rear window line
It looks like crap from the rear. Total crap.

I cannot believe there are people in this thread saying it looks good. Are you out of your mind?? 😕

word up. I think it's horrible. Current Gen ftw!

Looks hot. Don't know what you people are thinking. Only problem I don't like is the buldge in the rear. No junk in the trunk please.

Looks good, I'd like to see a head-to-head comparison with the new Toyota RAV4.

Like it would matter. The RAV4 has a 268HP V6 and still gets about 28MPG on the highway. CR-V is still a 4-banger 😉

True, but the interior of the Honda (from the pics) appears much nicer with more upscale options like factory NAV.

that and you'd put a 4 banger rav4 vs a 4 banger cr-v.... well, if you were trying to be somewhat fair.

and this thing is ugly... the rear lights are horrible.. and that rear window curve... wtf.

I really see it having troubles competing with the likes of the Rav4, new Santa Fe and the upcoming Ford Edge(that's the new small SUV right?)

Well, they're starting to hit some dealers. Time to go take a look-see. Initial impressions are very nice interiors but a bit of a premium in $$$.

say it with me,

"station wagon"

anyway, those huge pillars in the rear look craptastic. i can't imagine visibility is very good that way.

I actually want a station wagon, except the only things I see around are little hatches magnums, or powerless matrixs.

Subaru makes a good one but at worse mileage then a car based suv like the Rav4, it makes it a hard sell since I don't need awd.

That thing is going to have the mother of all blind spots with the way those rear windows are designed.

Exactly - one reason many people like small SUVs over wagons or sedans is the increased visibility. Compromising that attribute for aesthetic purposes is not a smart move IMO.

Nothing says "upscale" like horsepower. And at 166, the CRV ain't got it.

Can't argue that HP isn't important, but the interior of the Honda looks much nicer from the pics I've seen than the RAV4.

well most people that drive CR-V's are usually soccer moms and what not.
I doubt they care whether it has 200+ hp.
