No tennis fan could have hoped for more.

There are so many storylines in this match.

Federer has made 8 straight major finals, a new record. Nadal is unbeaten in the French Open. Federer beat Nadal the last time they played on clay, but still trail him 1-5 on clay.

Something's gotta give.

Didn't realize the final was already here. Thanks for the reminder!

I think Nadal will get it. Isn't like a master on clay?

when are they playing? I think I'll root for nadal on this one ... makes federer seem more human. If he wins french then there's no point in watching tennis, federer will win every match. But if he loses then there's always hope that nadal can take him on grass or hard court.

That's why I root for Nadal. It's not as much fun to watch someone with no comparable competition. A good rivalry makes things much more exciting.

SPOILERS (first set results)
---------------------------

Nerves are getting to Federer like mad, it seems. He had like 3 break chances at 15-40 and lost all of them. 5 more break chances at 30-40 or so, and lost all those also. Nadal broke him twice (or three times?) and won the first set 6-3. Nadal is just strong as a pitbull mentally, even when looking down the barrel of Federer's gun at 15-40.

federer is great, but does he have the competition that the greats of the past used to have? other than nadal, who else is even close to good in mens tennis right now?

pete battled some great great tennis players.

Davydenko (Russia) and Djokovic (Serbia) aren't too bad. They'll probably meet Federer or Nadal in the finals one of these days.

does federer vs nadal remind anyone else of Sampras vs Agassi

similar styles.

federer reminds me of sampras a lot and nadal plays the same way agassi used to.

nadal is winning handily but doesn't seem to be dominating.

They should make nadals half of the court clay, and Federers half grass. would make for an interesting battle. hehe

Nadal is a bit of a one-trick pony but he's great at it though.

ATP rankings

He's the #2 rated player in the world.

because he wins every clay tournament and places relatively well in other tournaments. it's not like he's winning the other majors like federer is.

It's because Federer wins those other majors. They've met many times on courts other than clay, and almost all of them have been close matches.
