I like the front end on the Mondeo, when looking at it straight on.

But from the side view, the front end looks kind of stretched out, compared with the rest of the body.

All IMO.

It's not bad but the Fusion is still much better, although I'm biased towards the Fusions ancestors.

if it's going to be in the bond movie, i wonder why they don't release the car here... there's going to be some interest in it.

That is a sweet looking car. Better than the old Mondeo which still looks better than the old Taurus did. I see those cars every once in a while when people come up from our facility in Mexico. I wonder if they'll get the new one down there in a couple years.

their US operations are bleeding money.

Both GM and Ford have made many vehicles in Europe and Australia that were much better styled than their North American vehicles. You'd think they'd at least try to bring them in as Limited Editions or something, just to test the waters, but they don't/didn't.

ford did it in the late 80s/early 90s with the merkur brand, and totally fscked it up. they then tried it with the contour, which was a mondeo, but they fscked that up too (it was too damn small because they didn't want to kill taurus sales). so now ford has little interest in doing so (even though the first gen focus was a smash hit)

in my humble opinion, ford should sell it's european lineup in the mercury brand. bring over the fiesta, the focus, the mondeo, the s-max, the galaxy, etc. maybe leave the ka there.

Lemme just add...FORD FALCON SVT. YES.

I think Ford builts a quality car nowadays whether you're talking about North America or Europe, but I look at this Mondeo, and the European Focus, and they just look so good, I don't understand Ford's thinking with American design. I mean they clearly have the ability to style a good-looking car, do they really feel that Americans prefer the styles we have over the European ones? Or is it more of a logistics issue that makes it diffcult to transfer models between divisions?

I often wonder if Ford and GM would be doing as badly in the USA if they brought their European products here instead.

Apparently American tastes are different from European ones. Look at Honda an Toyota, their American versions usually also look fairly ugly to my european eyes. Their US Acura version of the Accord on the other hand has the same styling as our Honda Accord.

I dont know - Cars in the US are usually substantially cheaper than here (even if you take out taxes) so maybe the blander design makes them cheaper to produce

that's because they're the same car essentially.

I'm not sure it would matter. They might sell some more cars.. and I might *gasp* actually own one if it were the right price... but their operations are still spewing moola out the wazoo. They have to drastically change that...

I like it. At a glance, I'd say the reason Ford isn't bringing it to the US is because it would compete against the Fusion and the Mazda6. What bothers me though is that this is the new CD345 platform, while the Fusion and 6 are on the older CD3 platform.
Maybe, just maybe, if Ford would sell their best -- like what they sell in Europe and Australia -- here in America, they might do better here.

Well considering they are an American company, they obviously would not be CHOOSING to deprive their main customers of "their best," so I am sure there are many reasons of which we are all unaware.
