2007 camry lower build quality

considering neither the accord nor camry were no where to be found in JD power's latest dependability survey, i think the japanese (well, really just honda and toyota, cuz mitsu has always sucked, and nissan ain't that great) have developed a pretty good size beloved patriot in the armor.

it used to be honda and toyota's were made in japan and shipped over here...nowadays, many hondas are made in canada as well as the US. not sure about toyota, but sure as hell not made in japan

I'm ok with a few aesthetic flaws if the engine still runs like a Toyota. Take care of one and it'll go forever.

My corolla's a bit over 200,000... here's hoping i can get another 200,000 before my transmission just falls out, performs a lovely monologue, and dies.

Both companies have moved much of their manufacturing to China and Korea. In addition to the plants here in North America.

Like the US, little is actually made in Japan anymore.

I was actually surprised that our 02 Honda Accord SE was built in Japan and not Georgetown, KY.

Their quality has been quite amazing as far as I'm concerned. Take it back or ph33r my baseball bat. 😀

iirc, he drives a late model nissan

When I bought my Camry in 93, most of the parts were made in USA and Japan. I noticed that my sister's 2000 Camry had quite a few parts made in Mexico. I think they are still good cars.

That would be because it's a Toyota plant in Georgetown. 😉

JD Power is almost worthless. Their sample size is tiny, and manufacturers have very little success in trying to affect the results. Consumer Reports is much more reliable.

made in usa

Go visit a Toyota plant and then try to say it with that tone. They're the most efficient, clean, and well run plants you'll ever see.

The majority of Toyota's US market vehicles are produced in the US. All of Lexus is from Japan except the RX330, which is produced in Canada.

I need to note that I am not defending the '07 Camry build quality. I'm rather disappointed with the interior.

Over 230,000 miles on my 87 Accord and its going strong.

The best build Camrys were the '92-'96 models. It was all downhill after that. Toyota OVER-ENGINEERED those cars to by a fair margin and put a lot of money into development to insure that the materials used were up to snuff. Just look at the cheapness of the materials in the '97 in comparison to the '96 model.

You know, I actually noticed that because I was in a toyota showroom the other day sitting in the new Camry, and the plastic and fit felt a little cheap. Not bad, but when the car costs that much, I've come to expect a bit more...

Happened to all the high end Japanese vehicles once production came to North America.

Eg my 2000 Maxima's interior seems much nicer and way less "plasticky" than the 2004 and up Maximas (which are made in the US).

I love the whole "omg, made in America, so it's crap." It's still up to the company on what it uses for materials and its designs.

Did they review a beat up press model, a flawed preproduction model or buy a production Camry to test?

possibly, but i've read these complaints at a couple other auto news sites.

the new avalon was also a target of quality complaints

that has more to do with ghosn's cost cutting than anything else.

Do you know this for a fact or are you just talking out of your ass?

I thought some Camry's were built in Japan and some in the US.

I'm not entirely sure if any Japanese built Camrys are imported to the US. If there are, it isn't very many. Georgetown produces a ridiculous number of them.

The problem is that people are demanding things like airbags, ABS, traction control, variable valve timing, etc. There is more computer power in today's Camry than there was in the Apollo moon rocket. Despite the cost of pomputing power making a rapid decline, it still costs money and in order to keep the selling price of the car reasonable, the extra cost has to come out of somewhere.

If people would be happy with a 4-speed automatic, an engine without fancy variable valve timing, a basic radio, non-electroluminescent guages, manual climate control, no in-car navigation, then cars would get sturdier again.
