With games like Mass Effect, Bioshock, GTA4, Halo 3, Assassins Creed, Lost Odyssey, and Blue Dragon coming out, this is going to be one of the strongest holiday lineups ever.

All I know is that I need to start saving NOW.

Add great games that I have missed (especially PS3 and Wii exclusives).

It's definitely the best year in quite some time, but I wouldn't call it the best year ever just because none of the games coming out this year are probably going to be in my top 3 favorite games of all time. I'd say it's the best year of the decade possibly.

This summer has probably been the best summer in the history of games though. I can't remember a summer where such great games came out.

Forza, Dirt, Darkness, Bioshock, Blue Dragon (for those that like crap RPG's :p)

Shoot, I voted "definitely" and I definitely did not mean to.

Halo 3 making it a great year? Halo 3 just makes it an overrated year. (and before the fans start trying to tar and feather me, I never said I didn't enjoy the game and don't want to play it)

I'd say it's better than average, but I bet there are better years in history.

PS3: Warhawk, Lair, Heavenly Sword, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Hot Shots Golf 5, SOCOM, Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, Singstar, Folks Soul

Those are all the PS3 titles coming this year that have potential to be really good. I'm interested in most of them myself... well, except Singstar as it's not really my type of game.

You also forgot Mercenaries 2 for the crossplatform games. It's at the very top of games I want this fall. Mercenaries was awesome... and Mercenaries 2 is going to have co-op. Oh yeah, Unreal Tourament 3 will be out as well, though I'll likely get that for my PC.

As an owner of all 3 consoles and a PC... I'm going to be woefully broke this fall/winter. I'm going to have to decide which games I can wait a few weeks on and give them out as suggestions for Christmas gifts :)

And, no, and I can't remember a year with this many good games. Sure, as a couple of others have mentioned, maybe none of these will end up as my all-time favorite, but I don't think that is a proper way to measure the overall quality. A single all-time great game doesn't an overall great year make. I'll take a year like this over that ANY YEAR.

So far this year I've been disappointed more than anything else with the super hyped games.

But note that most of the titles being listed arent out yet. Not much has been released yet. Just a few games like Forza 2. Actually, what super-hyped titles have even come out so far? Most of the big titles are hitting in the last quarter... and there's a hell of a lot of them coming.

You may not like Halo 3, but millions will. Besides there are plenty of other games out that even without Halo 3, 2007 will be great.

My first thought for comparison was the end of '04 / beginning of '05, where you had halflife 2, halo 2, resident evil 4, burnout 3, GTA san andreas. People were freaking out.
But yeah if all these games make it out, and live up to the hype, it will be a great year. Plus a lot of these are non sequels, which is a bonus. Is spore ever coming out?

It's been pushed way back I believe.

Well, at least in the PC arena, a good amount of significantly hyped titles (supreme commander, stalker, quake wars) have just not turned out as well as expected.

I cant think of a single noteworthy 360 or PS3 game so far this year...other than Forza I suppose.

And on the Wii, the only titles that have been worthwhile so far all year are first party efforts...third parties are just dumping crap and ports all over the Wii.

Theres no guarantee that those hyped titles actually will turn out as good as the hype, and the first half of this year has basically proven that.

I've bought more games this year than I have in a long time but I also just graduated and bought my first new gaming system(including PC) since I started college.

Most of the really good Wii games are first party but Godfather: Blackhand Edition and Rayman Raving Rabbids are a couple third party games that give me hope for next year.

Heard of delays before?

I highly doubt there will be a delay on Halo 3. Mass Effect has already been pushed back, so further delays are possible, but not likely. With the amount of content that has been released on Bioshock it seems very far along in development. Blue Dragon has been out in Japan for awhile now, so the only work needed is localization. Lost Odyssey I have not heard much about, so a delay isn't unimaginable, but with a scheduled release in October, it can still have a slight delay and make the 2007 calendar year. GTA 4 has had a specific release date for a long time, but have only released 2 trailers so far. Delay is possible, but my guess is that Rockstar and Take Two are going to be really pushing the game to be out for the holiday season.

I think there is at least $300 worth of games that I *know* I will want to buy, let alone other titles that certainly look promising. And that's just for the XBOX...

Guitar Hero II on the 360 is note-worthy.

Definitely some exciting games upcoming, but I wouldn't say it's the best year ever.

I would say 1998 was the best year ever: Gran Turismo, Starcraft, Half Life, Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Thief, Pokemon Red and Blue, Metal Gear Solid, and one of my personal favourites, Grim Fandango. I'm probably forgetting a lot more solid titles.

1998 was a great year a few more additions. Baldurs Gate, Fallout 2, Sanitarium, Tribes, Worms 2, Unreal, Rainbow 6.
Almost all on PC.
