25% substantial ??

I know those companies and I don't think that they can crank up an engine just by changing the ECM ??
I have not one but 3 mechanical engineers in the family and we've had this discussion many times but let's leave them out of this.
Think for a minute just what an ECM does. Can it make the valves change size ? Can it raise the compression ratio ? Can it change the cam profile ?
All the ECM can do is play around with the timing of certain events taking place in the motor.
No matter how many graphs and pictures of guys in lab coats they show you it is physically impossible to squeeze 25% more HP from an engine without changing some componenets and 25% is a lofty target.

As for GTI and AUdi's being alike ....I've had both and believe me a Volkswagen is not an Audi no matter how many parts you see under the hood with 4 interlocked circles. Fit and finsh is just one difference.

They increase the amount of boost.

You are very, very incorrect. Ever since the 1.8T engine, enthusiasts have been chipping with great success. It is so easy to make more power out of a turbocharged engine, and especially the VW family's lineups. There are plenty of us out there that have gained anywhere from 40-70hp off an ECU reflash alone.

It's SEX but its not worth the money. And I think we are getting the softtop instead of the hard top they get over in Britain.

There's a $5-6k premium(maybe more, don't know the pricing for the 2.0T) over the GTI while the GTI provide the same type of performance? If you have money to blow, get the 6 cyclinders.
