2006 resolution... Double my yearly income

I made roughly $30,000 this year (before taxes) and my New Year's resolution is to double that to $60,000 next year. What are some good (legal) ways of earning some additional montly income that you guys use?

I currently work for a car rental company and averag about 52 hours week. I'd like to earn some passive income if possible, instead of taking on another part-time job which would leave me with no social life.

Go into a sales position that does base pay plus commission. You could potentially work fewer hours and double your pay if you do it right.

get a degree in electrical engineering (circuits and hardware design) and come out with a base pay of $90,000. thats 3 times your salary. 🙂

I have a degree in that, and you need a master's + experience to get $90k a year. Even then, you can only make that kind of money in very select parts of the country.

Not many EE's that I know make 90k out of college! Hell actually none of them.
 
If you sell drugs to police officers and judges but don't get punished, then isn't it technically legal? You should try this.

Offer to fix up computers and whatnot for a small fee. That's always a quick way to earn a few extra hundred dollars, but it certainly won't double your salary. Only a new job or a raise could help you with that.

Or the drug idea, that's actually a pretty good one
 
Uhhh...slip keys under a couple rental cars every month and get some well-groomed junkie to drive 'em to the chop shop. Split 50/50. Perhaps not legal, but feasible.
 
Does your employer have a 401k plan? With employer matching?

That's 2 kinds of free money to bump up your after-tax earnings: 401k reduces your taxable income so if the last bit of your wages are taxed at 20% you save $1,000 for retirement but only see your take-home pay reduced by $800 -- $200 free money.

If your employer matches 50%, then with that $1,000 saved for retirement you get another $500 from the employer -- $500 free money.

In this scenario, your take-home pay goes down by $800, but you have $1,500 set aside for retirement ($700 ahead).
