The Sentra is so f*^king old now. It's probably one of the oldest small car platforms on the road. Just get a Civic and be done with it.

Faster, safer (airbags out the ying yang), larger, more fuel efficient, better interior, better build quality, better resale value...I could go on and on.

The Sentra shouldn't even make your top 5 list.

Eh for his needs i'd only consider a new Civic DX. All the older model Civvies either have less power or are more expensive (you're really paying for the name). I'm not saying they're not reliable by any means, but honestly, compare a used sentra with a used civic and they have basically the same exact performance (except the civvies have those low-torque high rev engines). In my area you might be able to find an 06 Civic DX for around 14,500 or 15k. Otherwise, if you want a fun car get a Spec V for cheap. And NSF4, don't even TRY to plug the new Civic Si... price difference man! Price difference 😛

Very informative and thought out post.

uncomfortable interior. so many panels and cubbies in the dash that it is bound to start rattling. seats are too narrow. the centerline of the driver's seat and centerline of the steering wheel don't match up. arm rests are hard plastic and will make your elbows ache. the middle arm rest is near useless because of how far back it is. large cups don't fit in the front cup holders because the a/c controls are in the way. the back seat is the smallest in its class, and is unusable if a 6 footer is in the driver's seat. with the fosgate stereo the trunk is pitifully small due to the subwoofer. the front sticks out so far past the front wheels that it will scrape on a lot of ramps.

mine in particular, with the 2.5 engine, is a real piece. first, the shift lock on the transmission is broken. next, it pings on the recommended octane. it is also hard to start (which nissan claimed was a known problem and didn't know how to fix, they did say they put a larger starter on it, but it didn't help). i think those two problems are related. the CVs went after less than 3 years of use. the suspension rattles. it has flooded 3 or 4 times (something i didn't even know was possible on a fuel injected car). best of all, the mileage is worse than my taurus was.

if i had to do it all over again, i wouldn't have been such a cheapass and just gotten the maxima. or maybe been a real cheapass and gotten a rebuilt transmission for the taurus.
