2 questions for you:

How far does your trunk lid open when you hit the release button?

When you put your car into reverse, does it want to rapidly take off on you with pressing on the gas pedal?

it does, but the lid only opens about 1/2"-1". I've never seen a trunk lid open so little, so I'm trying to decide if I have a bad strut or something before my warranty runs out. I figure the dealer won't be much help if I ask him.

i'm not a milan owner, nor do i own a zephyr/mkz/fusion, but the trunks on both my sentra and my roommate's jetta only open about that much.

ok...still need an answer on the tranny issue though. It seems to me a car shouldn't "jump" and take off when you put it in gear..

The truck thing is normal, IMHO.

Regarding "taking off", I am not sure what you mean. Do you mean there is a jolt going into gear or that it wants to go when you put it in reverse?

if I put it in reverse, without my foot on the gas, it will accelerate backwards pretty rapidly. I've never had a car do so, so I'm thinking it's something wrong.

I have an '07 milan. My truck just unlatches doesn't really pop up. And it doesn't jump at all when put in reverse.

easiest way to figure out the reverse thing is go to a dealership and test drive an 06 Milan. Hard for the dealership to fight with you if they can replicate it in their own vehicle.

Is this happening when the engine is first started?? if so, it's normal
for the RPM'S to be a little high when the engine is cold, the computer
will feed a rich mixture until it's warmed up as a cold motor will need more
fuel.
