I have a 2006 Mazda 6 that my passenger front door sometimes doesn't lock/unlock with the remote key. It's been this way for years. I haven't fixed it due to the dealer telling me it'll be around $900 to replace some chip that controls that. I've been looking around online and can't figure out which part they're talking about. As I do so love my car (mostly because I'm really cheap and it's paid for) I'd like to finally get this issue resolved. Could someone please help me figure out what I need to replace and where I can find it?
As I said, the remote key works on all the doors other than my front passenger one. Sometimes the door does work as expected and I'm happy. There really isn't a "if I do this it'll work.." thing, it's pretty random. When I took it in (granted this was a couple of years ago) I was told that whatever the key talks to in the door is flaky and needs to be replaced. Seems to me that the price is really high, but I'm not the most knowlegable in this area. I have replaced a bunch of parts including the window regulator, so I *think* I should be able to replace whatever this part is. I've just gone a bit mad trying to dig through a thousand parts on my phone so I'm turning to Anandtech as it's yet to fail me.
so.. yeah.. please help me fix this so I don't have to pretend "That's really weird.. it hasn't done that before.. " when I valet the car with the wife.
