I am really thinking about getting this model. What do you guys think? Seems like a nice little car at a decent price + 35mpg average. Any opinions?

I think you could get a lot nicer used car for the same price. There are plenty of nice used Lexus and Infiniti cars for that price range. If you're really set on a new car then that wouldn't be too bad I guess. The main thing I have against Civics is that there are so many of them and kids do dumb stuff to them (so you'd get lumped into the same group as them just by owning a Civic). Personally I'm partial to Toyotas and Subarus.

I am waiting on quotes right now, but it should be around $16,000. I really do not know the best way to pay for it yet, but I am thinking cash.

I was also thinking about waiting til the 07s come out then get the 06 used for a lot cheaper, yet still in great condition. I dont really want an infiniti, as they dont really appeal to me much. What kind of Lexus could I get in the same price range in good condiition?

2000-2001 Lexus ES300, late 90's GS300/400, 2001 IS300, 1996-1999 SC300/400, 1997-1999 LS400.

I looked these all up on autotrader.com to get a real quick idea of what year ranges you could get for around $16k

Problem with those is that the fuel efficiency isnt that good. Here in CA, where gas prices are reaching 2.70+ fuel efficiency is a must.

Of those I think the ES300 gets the best gas mileage, around 20/28 mpg for city/highway. Pretty decent for a car with a 210 bhp, 220 lb-ft V6 engine (2001 year).

If you do decide to get a new car I'd like to hear your rationale for it. I was talking with my roommate today about it and we figured the main reason people bought new cars was because they didn't have to put all the money up front for it. But then you'd just be paying interest, which means you'll be paying more in the long run. It's your money though so it's your call. Best of luck with whatever you choose. :)

factor in maintenance price/parts price/insurance/gas then those lexus/infiniti cars are not a good deal when talking civic budget. not to mention those cars have lost the most trouble free years of their lives already.

plus warranty and you know exactly what history the car has. It's new.

Okay, well how about a 2004-2005 Toyota Camry? Still should have trouble free years left in it and it gets 24/33 mpg.

[edit] Or a brand new Toyota Corolla. Same price range and 32/41 mpg. [/edit]

The camry has garbage handling

The corolla is a lame duck model at the end of it's life cycle. And it has garbage handling, complete with nonindependent rear suspension.

Dont really like camrys much...too plain...as for corrolas, those are nice, but I still prefer the civics styling, and I believe the civic drives better. But as I was saying, I will probably end up waiting a year and buying it used for $1000-$2000 less.

civic has better MPG and they are around the same price. They seem to have similar features, and the scion name just makes me shiver.

i'd prolly shell out more $ for the ex

I was looking at the EX, and for $2000 more, it didnt seem that much more special.

My insurance was $300/year more on the EX vs. the LX. I would have got the LX had I known beforehand.

That said, the EX is a good value considering the features you get. On the CDN model, you get alloy wheels, disc brakes, and a power sunroof, along with nicer trim and radio controls on the steering wheel.

I believe the LX also has radio controls on the steering wheel if Im not mistaken. Would you still consider the LX>EX even with these features?

Why not get the fast one, unless you don't enjoy spirited driving. The Si I guess it's called, the 197 horsie one anyway.

Ahh, why no manual? Have you ever owned a manual trans car? I hadn't till I got my '06 Mini Cooper S back in 11/05. I don't regret it at all now, it's a lot more fun to drive. I'm in Orlando though, traffic does get bad here at times, but I don't have to deal with it often so it's not a problem with the manual.

Next car I get will be a new car. I know how to take care of my cars, and I dont like the inevitable surprises you get when you buy a used car. Id rather take care of it right in the first place.

06 Civic LX is an excellent choice.

I would probably take the LX. :)

The sunroof *is* very nice though, and I use it every day.

Get an insurance quote first. I was amazed at the difference considering both cars have the *same* hp.
