2006 Hemi V8-powered Dodge Rams employ new technology to save an EPA 1 MPG!!!!

The Chrysler group escalated the battle for full-size pickups Thursday as it introduced a radically reengineerd version of its best-selling vehicle, the Dodge Ram pickup.

Ram pickup sales have slipped 9% this year to 163,094 through May.

The 2006 Ram 1500 light-duty pickup features an entirely new basic structure, a new and significantly upgraded interior, and an array of new optional features including a power sliding rear window, satellite navigation and a DVD entertainment system. It goes on sale in August or September.

Hemi V8-powered Rams will feature a new fuel-saving technology that improves the pickup?s EPA mileage estimates by 1 mile per gallon. The Ram is the first pickup to use the system, which shuts down four of the engine?s eight cylinders when they are not needed.

The system will reduce U.S. fuel consumption by 60 million gallons in 2006, according to Chrysler?s estimates.

The brawny Ram pickup went on sale just four years ago. Automakers traditionally make minimal cosmetic changes to their vehicles as they near the middle of their lifecycles, but the 2006 model nearly qualifies as an all-new truck thanks to its completely reworked frame.

The frame is the basic structure to which a pickup?s cab, bed, engine and transmission are mounted. http://www.freep.com/news/latestnews/pm4629_20050616.htm

That's not exactly "new" - Cadillac did that in the early - mid 80s, albeit with disastrous results.

Bah, fvck Dodge!!! I'll never buy a Dodge Ram now!!! I want my truck to guzzle as much gas as possible and I refuse to buy a truck that doesn't get less than 12mpg.

Why not start a new thread posting the results of the Michael Jackson trial while you're at it?

Well that's a 5-10% improvement. It's better than nothing.

That's what my tonnou gave me 😉 It will be free in 2 years. And yes, I did my own testing.

Add better pipes (exaust) and intake and a Hemi could do 25+ mpg.

Didn't GM already come up with this (Displacement on Demand IIRC) and put it in the Cadillac Sixteen and talk about putting it in their pickups if they haven't already?

The Cadillac 8-6-4 engine was a disaster though.

Was that the 80s version or the new version they introduced with the Sixteen?
