2005FPW with Ti4200 card?

So on impulse I got in on a deal on a Dell 2005FPW the other day, and have recently begun questioning whether or not my old Ti4200 will be able to handle the higher resolutions. I know I can use it in Windows, but any game I fire up is going to look pretty crappy.

Does anyone run this combo right now? I think I might need to hold off until Christmas for the upgrade ...

The Ti4200 will not be able to handle playing current games at the native resolution of the 2005FPW.

OK, but how about playing at other resolutions? How does the monitor scale? Black bars on the sides or what? Thanks for the insight.

the monitor scales very well. I just found out recently due to playing F.E.A.R.. I run it at 1024x768 with a 6800 GT and it looks very good.

Sweet. I'm looking to perhaps get a temporary upgrade this year to last me until next fall when I plan a total rebuild. I'll probably try to pick up a 6600GT or the likes. I'll get the best AGP I can afford. (sub $200 CDN)

It should scale similar to the 2405 which IMO is excellent at it. As long as you drop the res it should be OK for the time being.

The 2005 can be set to no scaling, aspect scale, or full scale.

1280x1024 on "no scale" 1:1 centered mode is the next lower resolution that makes sense.

So, what I'm hearing is that I can live with what I've got (and with older games for a while) and still enjoy the monitor. Thanks for the replies!

I'd love to, but since the monitor cost me a bit more than I intended to spend this month, it is going to have to wait. Not to mention the fact that my motherboard died this month due to a PSU failure, so I have some catch-up to do. All I can say is the RMA on the MB had better be in before the monitor gets here Friday! :p

I have a 2005FPW, too. Snatched one up when I still had a 9800Pro and tried hard as hell to play at its native resolution (1680x1050). Cool thing about the 2005FPW are the three settings: aspect, 1:1, and full screen. I use 1:1 with games that don't have a widescreen option/hack, looks a lot better than stretching the screen or using aspect.

Once you start playing in 1680x1050, it's hard to go back. :)

So what did you upgrade your vid card to?

They have that?!

Nah, I'm using a VNF4. One PCI-E x16 and PCI-E x1.. so no SLI support. I barely got my 7800GTs yesterday, so this week I'm going to sniff out an SLI board.

So what did you upgrade your vid card to?

Went 9800Pro > 6600GT (just temporary/testing) > X800XL > 7800GT (for now) > SLI 7800GTs

Oh no, I bought the 6600GT originally for my dad, but since it was months before his bday, I popped it in my PC and left it there. Since, I've given that entire rig to my WoW gamer sister, and bought a X800Pro for my dad. :)

Too bad ... my search for a cheap 6600GT continues unabated :)

Well, I am looking for a GeForce4 Ti4X00. Whenever you finally get a new card, drop me a line. I have a friend that can really use something other than a TNT2.

Will do, though I have a friend with a 64MB ATI something or other that has already put dibs on it if I upgrade. He may upgrade before me though.
