2005fpw or 2001fp?

Should I snatch a 2005fpw or a 2001fp? I play MMORPGs mostly(WoW, EQ, EQ2), and then some hl2 and d3 sometimes. Other use is school papers, web browsing etc.

So I know the widescreen would rock for browsing/papers, but what about gaming? I'd think that for WoW and such it'd be nice, to have a wider view, as I play a melee class and it helps keep track of multiple mobs in a group situation. How is the image quality at 1600x1080 though as far as stretching etc?

Screw it couldn't wait. Pulled the trigger and got a 2005fpw, for a nice price too!

I think you're better off. I've had some trouble with light leakage, but the color, response time and contrast are so much better on the 2005 than the 2001 that it's worth it.

I got my 2005fpw last week, and I love it. No bad pixels (and no, I haven't tested it, I can't see any and that's that), and some major backlight bleedage, also something I don't care about. Everyone has complained about backlight bleedage, but the only time I ever see it is when I turn the computer on or off (black screen).

Ordered mine on a Saturday afternoon. Went into production fairly quickly, then shipped early Monday morning from Nashville, and then UPS took their sweet ass time bringing it 6 hours up the road to Lexington, KY. Got it on Wednesday.

Lol, well I'm waiting on my processor to either come back from RMA(FX-53), or for my venice to ship out. My Mobo should be back from rma on Monday. I'm borrowing a friends dell, which has a 9800pro in it, so eh won't be doing much oustide of quake3 on this in 1600x1050 (If it even runs that high? or if it will run widescreen). I've got my pretty x850xt staring at me saying "Install be bastage!" Lol.

Yea, quake 3 will run it np, just saying I can't run D3 at those settings or HL2 hehe. Ahh well my FX got to AMD today, and have someone trying to help me out with a venice, so we'll see! At the latest my Monitor will ship out wednesday, but as things have been looking for other folks I think it will ship tomorrow hopefully.

heh, i got a 2005fpw and the only fps shooter i play is quake3, too.

you can get quake3 to play widescreen, but it's not supported directly. you have to go into your config file and change these three vars to:

seta r_mode "-1"
seta r_customwidth "1680"
seta r_customheight "1050"

have fun fragging!

I might upgrade to 2405 in a year or two, but right now I just can't justify nearly a grand for a monitor.

Interesting perspective... I usually spend more on my monitor than my cpu, not vice versa. Either way, the 2005FPW is sweet.

Well I didn't spend too much more for the CPU, besides if the venice works out well I'll sell the fx more than likely =). So then the monitor would be more heh.

Well, came in today. I must say.. not what I expected.

EVEN BETTER! Takes a little bit of getting used to the widescreen, but I'm loving it in games! For browsing I usually run two windows now to run through my favorite sites quicker and get back to gaming heh. I like the height adjustability. I can have the center of the screen at eye level. So I don't constantly have to look downwards.

Ran dead pixel tester, no dead/stuck pixels. Don't seem to have any backlight issues. WOO HOO!

I have had the FPW for 3 weeks now. I like it in City of heros (MMORPG) and Jiont ops ( slow FPS), but hate it in KOW (RTS). The reason it sucks in the RTS is that they don't scale the interface to the screen size. So you have this huge inteface across the bottom, and very long but not high playable area. Makes it even worst to scroll across in battles.

One thing people should know its about the height of 17in. and whole damn lot wide.
I'm give mine to me GF and going for the 20 in dell or 21 in Samsung

Yeah, I really like my 2001FP. I can't see giving up 150 pixels in height to only gain 80 pixels in width. I'm like you, I play EQ2, Doom3, and program a lot in visual studio.

I disliked KOW from the very start of the reason you mention. When I played the demo on my CRT I thought how dumb it was that the developers decided to take up so much of the screen on the interface. They didn't need to do it.....just shrink the icons, etc. (Starcraft is almost as bad to be honest.) I don't think it's an LCD issue.

i just got my 2005 a few days ago. It rocks for gaming. I have been playing hl2 and farcry mostly. No ghosting that i can see. I had a 1905 for a day and returned it because the ghosting was horrible.
