2005fpw Faint Verticle Line Problem

I got my 2005fpw on Monday and I noticed that on the left side of my screen only I see faint verticle lines going down my screen. I am using DVI. I plugged a VGA cord into my monitor and my laptop and I saw no lines. So its something with DVI. Anyone ever have that problem?

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a problem could be located in three areas:

1) Your DVI cable is faulty or not high quality --> get a different cable to check
2) Your video card has faulty DVI ---> test it on another monitor
3) Your monitor has faulty DVI input --> if the above two turn out to be negative. In that case get a replacement with Dell which shsould be easy enough.

Hope that helps.

JustinSane45, I think you posted on the thread that I started. I will try to plug a VGA cable to my laptop(It can't do 1680 x 1050), but at least it will display something. I will see if there is problem anymore. What kind of video card do you use?

Justin, what resolution did you set on your laptop. When I had my laptop attached to my LCD, it was set to 1024 x 768, I didn't see wavy lines. However, when I bumped it up to 1280 x 1024, they appeared again. Try it and let me know.

Thanks

I just read up on what screen door effect is. I am sure it is not screen door effect since it only happens on the left hand side for about 1.5 inches and the rest of the screen is so perfect. However, please correct me if I am wrong. Thanks

I can't remember what res I was using on the laptop but I know it was like 1280 by somethin. I will look again. I am using a 6800 Ultra. Someone said on ATI cards there is an option for reducing DVI frequency, but I can't find it in the nvidia driver options.

Ok just rechecked. Highest res I can run on it is 1280 x 800 and I saw no scan lines again with VGA. I don't have another graphics card I can test with DVI.

Found this posted on the Dell forums. Some guy found a fix but it doesn't mean there isnt something wrong with your monitor.
Hi again,

Thanks for your reply.

Since emailing you, I was able to find some additional information. It seems
that in some monitors, the DVI input is too peaky about the pixel clock
frequency. According to Dell, the pixel clock should be 119MHz when in DVI,
however some monitors produce these scrolling lines at this frequency.
However, they stop doing it if you raise the frequency to 146.25MHz. This is
what I did using the NVIDIA drivers (advanced timing button) and it solved
my problem.

Read here for more information:
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=53319

However, this doesn't mean that there isn't something wrong with the
display.

BTW, which revision is your new monitor?

Regards,

Theo

Thanks for the information. I am looking for the frequency setting for my ATI X800XL. I haven't found it yet.

I have Revo A02 I believe. It was built June 2005. Let me know if you have any idea where I can raise the freq. for my card to see if it solves my problem.

Thanks

I tried that this morning and same thing happened. Does it mean my monitor is bad then?? Thanks for your help man.

My option in the drivers was set on CVT-Reduced Blanking at 119 MHz so I changed it to CVT standard at 146 MHz and the lines went away. What is Reduced Blanking and am I loosing performance doing this?

I'm almost certain it's the issue with the Dell LCDs when you experience your monitor blank out every few minutes. I had this happen with my two 2001FPs.

Mine is just "Reduce ..." or "...Alternative..." something(I am not home to tell you the exact verbiage). It doesn't say CVT or anything like that. I am hoping it is the problem of the LCD since it is more hassle to exchange the video card.

I just typed in all 1's and then filled in all the rest. Then, you should be taken to the chat page. Use IE, firefox won't work. Let me know if you still have problem. you can PM me if you want so that we don't fill this thread with our conversation...hehe

Alright, replacement should be here Monday. Thats weird that they let you have 2 monitors and you have to send the old one back on your own.

They will have return information inside the replacement box. I don't pay for shipping for the return.
