i just got my 2005fpw and hooked it up. some things are spectacular on it; browsing and photos really are very vibrant. however, i am disappointed in some things, and that may be because i'm coming from a very high quality 19" sony crt.

the motion blur is noticeable, but not so much that it effects games too much. i'd imagine that just a little more of a tighter response rate would be better, but that's just a wish list.

what does bother me the most is the black level, which i heard wasn't all that great. coming from a crt though, i thought maybe people were just exaggerating but perhaps they weren't. doom3 doesn't look anywhere near as good on the lcd as the crt, in my opinion. also, sometimes games, i feel, look "cartoonish" on the lcd. i'm not quite sure why i feel that way, but they just don't look as 'real' somehow.

anyway, this one has some backlight bleeding and a stuck red pixel in the center of the screen, so i will be getting a replacement. perhaps that one will be a bit different, but probably not in the ways that i want it to be.

i may try to trade this for a new viewsonic 191b. i hear those have a great black level and are even more responsive, but i would lose the widescreen....which really is nice.

anyone have any opinions on the black level and motion blur of the 2005fpw, when compared to crt's and other lcd's?

If you see Motion blur on that LCD, you need to go back to CRTs, because that is about as free from blur as you can get on a good LCD. I have NEVER seen any blur on mine and I play everything from HL2 to WoW. So you may just be one of those people that either is highly sensitive to it or thinks there is blur when there isn't. *shrugs* For black levels, I have seen some of what you are talking about in mine, but not really, it is only when you view the LCD on an angle for me. Directly in front of it there is no problem for me. HL2 is plenty dark where it needs to be.
