well lately i've been wanting thinking of getting a HDTV in my room and watching it on my 2005FPW. I figured I'd try this since my cable HDTV receiver had DVI but I only found out they had it had HDCP protection.

I was wondering If i could get a standard componet to vga cable and use that?

so componet from the HDTV receiver than VGA to my monitor than as far as speakers which i'll also have to look into I could run those straight off the HDTV receiver if needed.

You would need an actual transcoder to convert from YPbPr Component to RGB VGA, not just a simple cable. That would cost at least $50, and likely over $100 (last I'd checked anyway).

I see I knew it couldn't be this simple but I didn't know HDCP was actually going to ****** me one day.

edit: could you maybe recommend some?

I just froogled up this http://www.datapro.net/products/CSV-955A.html
would that work?

also since the monitor runs at 1680x1050 would that make a difference? it's not a standard HD res.

That looks like it'll work fine, but I don't have any first-hand experiences with transcoders.

Based on my experience with my HDTV tuner that output a seperate DVI signal, the 2005FPW seems to be able to accept a 1080i signal just fine and downscale(/deinterlace) it. If that for some reason doesn't work you can always just send a 720p signal and have the monitor upscale it...

sounds good now is vga comparable to componet? I've also been wondering would it look better when plugged up to dvi even though i can't do it just wondering. I don't want there to be quality loss and what not.
