And I thought boring out the original 3.0L to 3.5L was hardcore.

Apparently it's based on the Titan platform .

If the VQ35DE in the 350Z makes 287 bhp, we?d bet a few dollars the new VQ40DE would (or could easily) crank out over 290 horsepower and a lot more torque. One reason behind the secrecy may be the Frontier?s arch- enemy, the Toyota Tacoma, which will be offered with a factory supercharger option good for over 300 bhp. (Editor?s note: If you look in Toyota?s press release, they actually say their new truck is faster than the 350Z.)

This has been common knowledge for a while, since the Detriot show I believe.

The Pathfinder gets the 4L VQ as well.

And hte motor has just not been bored out. There have been numerious, yet minor changes in the design. I believe this will be the 4th gen of the VQ motor.

I'm not comfortable with the Titan platform thing. Why make it bigger?? I probably wouldn't buy one for off road.

anyone know the bore and stroke? because even thought the 3.5L is the lartgest VQ series motor that Nissan offers (I think the VQ25DE is the smalest..2.5L v6) it's still an oversquare motor

Wow, that Tacoma performs like a beotch! Faster than a 350-z, better lateral grip, for a truck! I wonder how well it really handles for a truck though? Skid pad doesn't mean everything... It would be great to race people in 350zs with a truck and win in any condition :p

  • new stiffer Titan/Armada (F-Alpha) truck platform
  • fully boxed all-steel ladder frame
  • rigid leaf rear suspension
  • timing chain (instead of belt)
  • tow over 5,500 lbs.
Making a truck sturdy? Wow, what a concept!

Sturdy trucks have been a staple in this country for decades! Just because you've grown up in a time when weenie mobiles infested our highways, doesn't mean the rest of us can't happily go back to what really works!

You're full of "I'm a big bad macho man and you're a pussy with a small car" BS. Tell me why a compact pickup needs a full size frame.

Edit: Also, you're the bad truck guy. Laust is the good one.

You can still get it with a 4 cylinder.

They're just covering their bases. Its just plain smart to have something available for all the markets.

ummm, welcome to trucks?

The thing is most buyers of these things will use them like compact cars. They won't get any benefit from the bigger engine, but they will use more fuel and pollute more.

Unibody certainly isn't up to the task. And why design a new frame? Common platform means lower costs. I'm sure it doesn't need to share parts with the Titan, but it's a smart business move on Nissan's part. They're stepping up in size to compete with the Dakota and Chevy's new Colorado.

EVERY vehicle would be sturdier with a frame, let alone a truck!

Laust is the one with a 'bad' truck. I don't even own one! Well, none worth mentioning.
