2005+ Mustang GT owners

I may be trading in my 2005 mustang (V6, vert, auto) for a 2005+ model GT model (manual, possible also a vert). And I have a couple questions:

1. After talking in some of the mustang forums and through my own experience, it seems the V6 models do not get much more gas mileage. In fact, some GT owners get better than what I get ( I get 17 city, 25-27 hwy). I was wondering what your GT MPG is as this was part of the reason I got a V6 in the first place

2. Is the reliability of the GT similar to the V6? In the mustang forums people are starting to get into the higher mileage of the V6 and not having any problems (only common problem seems to be the fuel pump).

3. How much higher should I expect my insurance to jump up?

Accept the fact that your gas mileage will go down some. Yeah you could match your V6's mileage driving conservatively. But then why have a V8?

The fun thing about babying the V8 for gas mileage is that when you do get on it after a while of babying, it feels like a whole new beast again :D

Reliability should be fine. Ford uses this same basic design across the board, just check for specific model year issues and you should be good.

I'd expect all Mustangs to have higher insurance than average, personally. First off the V6's in particular are driven by the young crowd a lot. The GT's are the cheapest way to get into a V8 muscle car, as well as F-bodies. You get inexperienced people behind a RWD V8 and lots of tree bending or ditch landing is to be expected.

'Tis why the Goat's insurance has been steadily going up - the 04's are available under $20K and many of them are getting wrecked of late. Ugh

Had an '06 GT for a year.

1) I averaged 18mpg commuting and about 25mpg on the freeway. Not terrible.

2) Historically, the V8 Mustangs have been more reliable than the V6 cars. You shouldn't have big issues.

3) Insurance for me was terrible, which is ultimately why I sold the car in Feb of '07 (1 year of ownership). But I'm an un-married male in his mid-20's, which is not a great insurance group to be in. I have a clean driving record.

Not to thread hijack, but I'm an 06 V6 Mustang owner. Do you guys have problems with scratches on your windows? I've got these long scratches on both of my side windows that the dealership is telling me affects all 05/06 Mustangs and cannot be fixed. It looks like shit and I can't believe everyone has those same problems? Its more apparent with tinted windows...

Nothing that I have noticed, are they vertical or horizontal?

I'm assuming vertical, the felt trim at the bottom can trap dust and dirt against the window.

I don't have any scratch problems but I did notice that felt dust wipe on my '03 is unusually tight against the glass compared to other cars.

It is vertical. And yes, its the felt trim that traps the dust/dirt. They said they can't fix it/stop it from happening. The scratches are getting worse by the month. Very bad looking.
