I freind of mine just bought one, loaded to the max, every option, hemi V8, trailer tow package. it was a dealer demo, with 1,100 mile on it.
I took it for a 20 mile drive to check it out.
road test results:
the good:
good handling, excellent braking, fairly smooth ride, quiet, solid feel, good fit and finish, decent sound system (not super good), seat were nice and firm good but not super good, good ergo, climate control ok, not super.

the bad:
tranny was not very responsive, it was a slush box big time, even if you put the gas pedal to the floor from 0 to 80 mph, it never set you back in the seat when shifting up. with that much power it should have. ya some people like a auto tranny that you never feel shift, but not me. how long will it last when towing? the full trottle down shifts were on the slow side. I didn't overly care for the shifter setup, you have to look at the dash to see what gear it's in. it shifted so weak it was hard to tell.

engine, not all that impressed with, ya it was smooth running and quiet. but it lacked low rpm power, wasn't really all that responsive. it didn't seem to be all that powerful. but did have good 50 to 80 mph pickup. zero to 60 mph wasn't all that great

and i'll bet you whine about the price of gas too:p
seriously, though, if you buy a vehicle to tow something, get it with a manual transmission. waaay better.

I love my manual, but I don't see why you would want to put yourself through towing with one.

yea, he obviously doesnt think that it compares to a corvette, or magnum in acceleration.

but everything ive read about that car, it is now the official best midsize SUV in the country, foreigners included.

fixed. X5 is by no stretch a real SUV. Worthless offroad with those tires. seats 5 like a normal car (unless it has third row).

Cargo capcity is majorly lacking in those designer luxury SUV's. As a Circuit City warehouse guy I have seen many BMW SUV/ LexuSUV/Merc. SUV etc. etc. owner look surprised as his cargo area turned out to be too short, not tall enough, or not wide enough to fit even a basic TV. There is no reason to own a BMW SUV. Want something big and tall that's good offroad or in the weather and has decent cargo space? Buy a real SUV, not these designer jokes.

BMW, benz=fix fix fix

the hemi is a flow motor, not a low rpm torque motor. it makes it's power at mid to higher rpms it seems, just like the old hemi's

I was in a new Cherokee recently and I can say it is pretty bad, I didn't like the styling, and the air conditioning was less than ideal, the engine was also pretty defunct as well. Just my thoughts.

I like the styling, but that is just all a matter of taste. yep the air wasn't overly powerful, but it was hot and humid and sunny

Oh and also it's too easy to hit your knee on the key and turn the engine off while driving.

I know some of the so called SUV have smaller load allowance, smaller "trunk" space than some station wagons and even than some compact cars. However, this is not the reason most of the owners buy them
