A 15-year-old Pickering youth was killed yesterday afternoon while being towed on his rollerblades behind a car, Durham Regional Police say.
The tragedy occurred about 4:30 on Rawlings Dr. in Pickering.
The victim was being towed by 1997 Dodge Neon when he fell and was run over by the car, suffering severe head injuries. Police confirmed that the victim's name is Derek Cameron, who lived on the street where the accident happened.
Sgt. Paul McCurbin said the investigation is trying to determine how the car came to run over the boy."Right now we know that he lost control and fell awkwardly," he said. "We don't know yet if she (the driver) knew he was holding on to her car." Charges, however, are pending.
The investigation is continuing. The Neon was being driven by a 20-year-old woman who knew the victim. Police didn't release her name. The youth was taken to Rouge Valley Health Ajax Hospital and later died. The roadway was closed for several hours as police collected evidence.

Poor kid.....stupid idea, but fun at the time. I've done that with a snowboard.

could have been holding onto the side (around the window frame). hit a snag, fall awkward (depending on speed, you really can't control your fall), and helloooooooo head trauma.

Probably hanging on off the side through an open window and fell under a rear tire.

If he was hanging on the side how would the driver not notice him?

1. unlucky fool may have just happen to be in the driver's blind spot.

2. from the OP, ["We don't know yet if she (the driver) knew he was holding on to her car."]. so they could have been doing this pulling thing intentionally which would qualify them for an ensemble Darwin award.
