Computers are my hobby and so I spend a large amount of time in front of a screen, and when I finally had enough money to buy a 20" Apple Cinema Display I was that >||< close to actually ordering one. Then I got this idea that I wanted a multimonitor setup and my life started to get a bit complicated. At first I wanted 2 good 19" displays of varying combinations and makers. Then someone here in the forums gave me a tip to check out Dell... now why hadn't I thought of that?? In the end I got a 2005FPW and a 1704FP for less than 1 Cinema Display.
Now the sad part:
First 2005FPW develops a glitch in its electronics. It says it's made in the UK so it probably thought it was scottish, as where it was supposed to show black it occasionaly displayed a green pattern that could have come from a tartan.
The second one leaked so much light onto the panel I called it the Exxon-Valdell
The third one had the same problem but the back-light also had the tendency to just turn off without provocation. Turn the entire monitor off and on again and it worked... great.
Now I'm on my fourth... and so far it is doing well. No light leaks, scottish fashion statements or unprovoked labor disputes.
So just a heads up to anybody thinking of buying this Monitor: It is an excellent screen and a real bargain. Widescreen World Of Warcraft is just awesome! BUT: Be prepared to have a few problems and don't hesitate demanding a replacement. Dell was excellent on this front, I will give them that and the screens did work - sort of - so I could continue to use them until the next one arrived. Its just that Dell really needs to sort out its QC quickly...
