2004MN4 deep impact a reality?

as most of you know a asteroid is may be headed towards earth 2004MN4. the confirmation of the course of the asteroid will be unknown until 2029 it may hit in 2036 giving the goverment and nasa 7 years. what do you think would happen if it hit earth and how would we pervent it??

Hah.

The closest an asteroid ever got to hitting Earth was hundreds of miles, if not more. And when it was going to happen, NASA issued an international impact alert. If this asteroid is seriously going to come within 50mi of Earth, NASA would be initiating DEFCON's and urging the international community to take cover.
 
Why not use a thermal nuclear weapon to steer it of course, or slightly alter its path to not get into earths way. Not like the Armageddon movie, or deep impact.

maths / a nuc wont work / rock is travelling to fast / speed = mass / E=MC² we re toast if its big n fast is the answer with our current tech !
 
eh before i was gonna say 'let it hit, would be kinda cool to start from scratch again', but this asteroid is a pathetic ~1500 feet across. lets just stick all those nukes that we need to get rid of anyway from SALTI/II or whatever treaty on a unmanned shuttle and crash it into the asteroid.
