Somewhere on the low side line. Not much place for it to hide.

I'll go ahead and venture to guess that it's not your problem. Is your problem just that the compressor is not running? Have you had someone check pressures?

The most common AC-related issue with those cars has to do with the fan controller, a.k.a some relays VW stuck together into an assembly and then, using all of their genius, put them under the battery.
