At first glance, the G35 is a beauty. Its sleek, sporty look makes it a real head turner. Owners used a lot of loving terms when describing their relationship with the coupe. Infiniti?s sport coupe is based on the same platform and features a lot of the same driving dynamics, including the powerful 3.5-liter V6, as the Nissan 350Z, the other finalist that came oh-so-close to wearing the coveted NACOTY crown this past year. The 350Z was also one of the other cars most often considered by G35 buyers, along with the BMW 330Ci, the Audi A4, Lexus GS 300 and Porsche Boxster.

But more than just a pretty face, the G35 is impressive at both the track and on the street. The coupe hit 60 mph in less than six seconds. The Brembo brakes, standard on the coupes that feature the six-speed manual transmission, stopped the G35 from 60 mph in 115 feet. That puts the coupe in the same category as the BMW Z4 (AW, June 23), which stopped in 110 feet, and the Porsche 911 (AW, Oct. 23, 2000), which held the previous AutoFile stopping record at 111 feet.

I would rate the interior in my buddy's G35 as "average" for this class, but considering the quality of the engine, brakes, suspension, and tranny (plus the minimal NVH and sweet exterior styling), I think I could live with it. :D

The most frequent owner complaints centered around the interior center console, which some found cheap and plasticky, and others found simply too obtrusive. Others also noted that the radio buttons are small and annoying, and knobs and wheels are the preferred way to go.

The G35 has an awkward, T-shaped dash and console that is cheap-looking

My only quibble is the interior that scuffs so easily. They really need to use better-quality materials, which is disappointing

So much for those Jap interiors eh?

Sounds like they could also be describing the Caddy CTS's cheapass interior too :) I still think the G35's interior is better than the CTS.

Yeah it's a bitch...I had to wait 3 months on the waiting list for my 6MT....whereas I could have gotten an auto in less than half the time.

I can attest to its ability to turn heads and also it's not-so-great dash plastic. But I haven't found it scuffs all that easily and one thing that's nice is that it is very easy to clean. The radio buttons on the dash do pretty much suck but thanks to the awesome steering wheel controls, I never have ot use them. At the end of the day though, the driving experience blows away anything else I've driven in its class.

The '04 model has no changes from the '03.5 with the exception of offering a new shade of blue.

But for Shantanu, that would be "GM Quality."

He's just jealous that the butt fugly CTS isn't as beloved as the G35/C.

I don't get it. The G in the US is the new Skyline in Japan. I'd relate the Skyline to be more of Nissan heritage than the Z.

What's not to get. And Z cars are much older than Skylines so I think that is your opinion but not standard thinking.

Nissan Z long heritage of Z cars for driving fun.

Infiniti G35 taking a Z rebranding it charging more for it just because some fools think it is better because it is from their premier brand name.

I just think if you want a "premier brand" car go BMW, Mercedes, Porche for a sports car. If you want what the Z is and has been for 3 decades then a Z is for you. Do you see IMO I think the G35 is a wanna be M3 it should have just stayed the Z as a Nissan and kept it's niche in American sports cars without posing as something it isn't. If you cannot tell I like nissans but I think infini's are a waste of money for more plush appointments and a different badge on the trunk lid saying to the wolrd "I'm better cause I drive an infiniti". It's called an opinion nothing more. G35 is nice but for a plush premier branded car I'd go with a european name brand.

It's not about heritage, you fool, it's about $$$$$$. I's take a G35 Coupe over a Z anyday, just for the fact that it's got a back seat, more storage, and a better design (IMHO). I'd then buy Nissan Skyline Emblams for the front/back to make the transformation complete ;)

Wanna bet? The Skyline has been around for at least as long, if not longer than the Z.

I got pissed off because some dumb a*s cop came up to me when I was getting gas and asked me if it was the new Cadillac. There is no comparision in the styling as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah, thats my only gripe about the car too is the interior. I would like to see aluminum or carbon fiber used instead....even if it would take on an extra 500 or so.
