I don't get it. Hyundai's image has improved slightly, as compared to 5 years ago. Shouldn't they be trying to improve that image instead of introducing more luxury cars? This is their 2nd luxury car in the market.

Consumer Reports said that this thing drives like a boat...compared it to many older Caddilacs and Lincolns. Just because a car has leather and wood grain does not make it a luxury car.

"Back in the Eighties and early Nineties, when the Japanese manufacturers were aiming to attract buyers by simulating American luxury, they came up with cars like the first Nissan Maxima, Mazda 929, and Toyota Cressida."

WTF? They came out with the Q45 and LS400, which were right on par with German luxury cars. Is Car Connection comparing Maximas etc. to Cadillacs and Lincolns?

He's comparing the old Maxima, 929 and Cressida to Oldsmobiles and Buicks of the day. Remember, the current (and past generation) Avalon is considered the Japanese Buick

People said the same exact thing towards Japan before. Look at how highly regarded Japanese products are considered now. Image change takes time, and these are all steps of progression.

Damn. Late '80s & early '90s American cars that weren't Cadillac Fleetwoods or Broughams pretty much sucked. Oh well, I hope this trend continues until we see the Japanese equivalent of a '60s Impala that even I could afford!

That is incredibly true, only it's happening faster for the Koreans than the Japanese. It was just 10 years ago that Samsung made nothing but total crap - look at how highly regarded their cell phones, monitors, etc. are now.
