2004 ELECTION... for a Digital Camera!

Whattup Y'all,

When I was in the market for a new laptop several months back, I put out a posting for our trusty ATers to vote on what kind of laptop I should buy. You spoke, and I listened - bought the laptop you suggested. Based on the positive suggestions and feedback I got last time, I decided to put my decision in your hands again.

This time, I'm looking to buy a new digital camera, with 3.2 MP+ and a decent optical zoom (and other features I should look for - please feel free to suggest) all for a price under $300.

ANY COMMENTS WILL BE HELPFUL. I'm currently eyeing the Sony Cyber-Shot DCS-P73. However, whatever the consensus is among the ATers will be the camera I end up buying.

Holla.

FINAL RESULTS:
First of all, thanks to everyone who gave their input. I went back and looked through reviews for all the products mentioned. Though there were quite a few features I found to be attractive, ultimately, those cameras were out of my budget. Also, my friend has offered to purchase the camera with his discount, so the availability of the camera also became in issue. In the end... YOU CHOSE:
CANON A80

I'll let you know how it works. Thanks again.

Inspiron 5100. This was awhile ago, but I got it for a good deal and I've been happy with it.

Hopefully I'll be happy with the camera too.

My roomate in college introduced me to this site when I kept bugging him for tips/suggestions for a laptop. There are some smart tech-savy people here. Read up on the others' entries, don't reply much.

Without a doubt.

wow, i really like that lcd panel that flips and swivels.

canon a75 and a80 are both very nice, contain many features, and use inexpensive compact flash memory instead of sd or xd.

Should I just worry about MPs, or are there other features as/more important?

MP is not the most important factor. Do some research, read reviews, check out sample pics etc.

I also vote for A80. Im getting the A75.

Just picked up an A60 today for $100.00 out the door at office depot. They had the A80 on sale too with a 64mb CF card. I say go with the canon Aseries. GREAT CAMERAS!!!

got a lot of suggestions for the canon a80. did a google search for some reviews on that particular camera, and it looks like a pretty decent camera. one thing i didn't find was any mention of a digital zoom. i know that on other cameras, there is the optical zoom and after that you have the digital zoom to get even closer.

any views on that?

3.6X digital zoom, combined 10.8x

Digital zoom isnt all that.

digital zoom is pointless, NEVER USE IT

you can do the same thing in any image editing program and it looks better
