I have a 2004 dodge neon that i just bought. I took it to a shop to look at it before I bought it, and they told me I needed to replace the motor mounts. I replaced the upper one so far, but it didn't really change anything. I don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on something to fix it if it won't be fixed. When I'm driving, the car is fine. But when at a stop light or stop sign it vibrates and shakes so badly. I was told it can mess my transmission up if the mounts aren't fixed, but I don't know if this is the actual problem? help, please..with any suggestions

Not replacing a broken motor mount will cause additional damage.

Spend the money to prevent additional damage or unload the vehicle ASAP.

Agree it is not good to run for long with bad mounts. I have a PT Cruiser which uses the same mounts as the Neon. Replaced both upper and lower on the passenger side, there is a third but was not needed. Replacing them myself was not to bad as I have most tools required. What I did do though was to fill the mounts with windshield sealer. This made them quite a bit stiffer but less likely to separate in the future.

Usually a shaking engine is not due to broken motor mounts.

Runs fine and smooth at speed, but doesn't idle smoothly is a vacuum, idle mixture issue more than likely.
