2004 Civic Pricing?

Hi all - friend has a 2004 Honda Civic she wants to sell. It has 100k miles, it's a coupe and I think she says she had the timing belt and water pump replaced at 90k. Fair condition.

Any idea what would be a good price to sell the car at? I checked kbb, nada, edmunds and it ranges from 4k-7k...

What would someone here pay for the car?

Depends on the options. I wouldn't pay more than $5k for it. HOWEVER, the market for used Honda Civics is tremendous. Tell her to list it at $9000. Seriously.

I agree with angry hampster - you can list it higher than you'd think, a nationwide AutoTrader search for '04 Civics with 100K miles shows $7000-$8000 is the going rate.

$9k is high. 100k, 2004, ... probably closer to $6,500-$7,000, IMO. And that's not even including the fact that people will knock down the price.

It's 4 years newer than mine, 16k less miles than when I got it. I got mine in excellent condition for $4000 about 2 years ago and I only got $200 knocked off the price tag. It's possible I could have gotten one for $500 less or some other car for $1000 less, but this thing came in such great condition. :awe:

Also, you didn't say what model. If it's the barebones model then it's not going to be worth as much as the one with the moonroof, power windows, etc. Mine was an EX(All the options).

I don't know how common 2004 honda civics are these days but http://seattle.craigslist.org/see/cto/2810439507.html just a quick search gave me that. $7,500, 76k miles, 2004 LX(some options, not all). I bet the guy would go down to $7,000 on it at least too.

Yes, but people are silly about civics and if there is a decent chance someone will bite at $9k, why not try it? Is it worth that, no? Would you buy it for that? No. But someone might...... If not, you only are out the listing fee (if any), relist lower.

This is honestly why I bought a Honda, the resale value is insane. I don't ever keep my cars until the wheels fall off (I rely on mine too much, I've been commuting now for just over 2 years) so I want it to still be worth something by the time I trade it in. Honda wins in this arena.
