2004 Chrysler Crossfire

I agree with Mwilding that it's too new for a lot of data to be available, but you can make some educated guesses since it's based on the SLK platform.

I'm thinking the reliability would be about average. MB has had some quality control problems in recent years (faring poorly on reliability surveys by JD Power and Consumer Reports - worse than Chrysler, actually). However, I believe that these results were likely related to some electronics problems on the ML and other new models like the E-Class. The SLK is MB's oldest platform IIRC and any problems with the powertrain/engines should be sorted out by now, even as they were adapted into the Crossfire.

As for repair costs, I imagine they would be quite high. As you mentioned, the Crossfire is built in Germany so I would think a lot of the parts are sourced there. Chrysler does have a decent warranty.

I personally think the Crossfire is a bit overpriced, but I think dealers are increasingly willing to bargain because they are not moving as many of them as they would like to.

Honestly, I cannot fit in the crossfire. I have driven my dad's SLK many times (chicks dig the benz), but the crossfire is too small for me... its f-ing ridiculous. I have to bow my head down to see through the windshield, and my knees are crazy in the dash (im 6'2" 195). The silver interior looks sweet, but this car is more form than function. I also dig the move for chrysler to put in a 1-din stereo... real cool... very sick of driving a mopar and having to use a damn spacer plate to fill in the gap.

Taking it for a test drive, it seemed like a broke ass SLK. In other words, it felt very similar but the little nuances are what seperates the chrysler from the benz. Take a test drive and figure out for yourself.

Conclusion (from a male perspective): Yes the car looks cool(besides the silver around the windshield), and you can probably pick up a decent amount of chicks in it... only prob is once you get them in you have no room to do anything 😀 :evil:
 
I was shocked when I did see the price. I thought it'd be way higher than $34k.


I found that rear brake pads are currently running $33 at Autozone for it. 🙂
 
Well I know one thing about it. Its hidious. Its also a chrysler, whom I've sworn to give another dime for the rest of my life.

He hasn't acutally driven one yet. He's going to this week. The Crossfire is right close to the top of his current budget.

I'm just glad I talked him into something other than the GOD AWFUL Accord he was looking at. 😀
 
The only problem I have read about is the tires don't last a real long time and they are pricy. Just have to get a different brand once the factory ones wear out.
 
I almost bought a Crossfire last week. I could have gotten one for $8k under list. Here's what you need to know: they are almost a MB 320CLK. 44% of the Crossfire, including the engine, tranny, suspension, platform are all directly taken from the CLK. It is built by the same company that builds the 320CLK, not MB; it is farmed out to a company that has been building for MB for a very long time. I really like it and for $27k I think it's a steal. Had I felt it was a good idea to push my budget to the limit, I would have bought one. Maybe next year or the year following. We'll see...

You mean the SLK, not CLK. And the company that assembles the Crossfire is Karmann, which has done work for Mercedes in the past but has also worked with other companies such as Ford & VW (their specialty is convertibles - they have designed hard and soft-tops for a number of different vehicles).

Technically it's a German car heh. Actually it's a scaled down version of the Mercedes SLK. EDMUNDS is one of the best car review sites I know of if you need info, but I can tell you this. The reviews so far are that the car is underpowered and has so-so brakes, which I find unacceptable for a $35000 car.

I disagree with the reviewers. I've driven the car and the engine is fine and so are the brakes; but a true car guy will always want more. 😀
