is the CBR F5i cause that has been rumored.

I will take either.. though if I dont stop having my back pain I wont be able to ride much more.. I need to figure out what's causing this back pain.

It hurts quite a bitand I am quite sure my GS's riding posture is partly to blame.. oh well got to do those excercises the doc prescribed for me.

I agree. I think over the years, more and more companies are going to move the exhaust underneath the rear cowl. Its a trend I'm glad Ducati started. Now, whose next to adopt the single-sided swingarm? :)

Exhaust or not, the overall R6 design looks much better than the CBR. I'd still rather have a Ducati 748R. :D

Hate to burst your bubble, but the new Duc 999 has a double-sided swingarm. :Q

Agreed on the under-seat cans tho....definitlely looks cleaner.

I know, I know. Hell, I even posted in the thread you posted about the 999 a couple months ago. That doesn't necessarily mean next 998 or 748 will be double-sided (I hope not).

There's not gonna be a next 998 since this is the official replacement for it. Dunno about the 748 tho.....hope they'll incorporate the testastretta engine into it tho.

The 999 is replacing the 998 too?! :Q In the other thread you said this was the replacement for the 916, not 998. When are they officially phasing out the 998?

In all the 600-class shootouts I've read, the most common complaint about the 748 was its weak engine. Here's hoping Ducati stuffs a destroked testrastretta into that sumbitch for the next redesign/upgrade.

Yup. 916 was replaced by the 996 which was replaced by the 998 (although most of the newer bikes in each case was really cosmetic other than the increased engine displacement). The 999 is a ground-up new bike replacing the 998. You may be confusing it with the new GP4 bike with the desmodieci engine (a V-4).

I'm betting they'll put the testastretta head on the 748s. The blocks on both engines are the same so it's not like they'd have to do a bunch of retooling to make smaller testastretta heads for the smaller disp engines. More HP always sells more bikes.

Oh, and I wouldn't say the 748 lacks power given it's displacement. You have to rev it out a bit more than a 998 (duh) but you can break the back end loose coming out of a corner, believe me. :D

Thank you for the history lesson.

Lucky SOB, you've driven one? :Q I'm just going by the various reviews at Motorcycle.com. Compared to the various 600cc I4's, the 748 comes in dead last in 0-60mph, 1/4mi, and lap times. :frown: Though, to say any superbike is slow, would be absolute lunacy. Aside from design and bragging rights, its difficult to justify buying a 748/S/R over just about any 600cc Japanese bike.

I have a friend (a doctor with lots of disposable income and no wife) who has a stable of absurd bikes. He'll occasionally offer to swap with me when we're out riding as he likes my Triumph Daytona. He's a bit of an italophile, so naturally several of his bikes are Ducs (tho mostly older ones aside from the 748).

As far as buying a 748 over a 600: sure, they're much more money, but they also have a lot more personality. Something about really wailing on a nice grunty twin coming out of a corner is just.....right. They're also more streetable IMO since you have to rev the snot out of a 600 to really have fun in the twisties whereas you have torque on demand at just about any RPM with a twin.

(You have to admit 123 bhp from 0.6 normally-aspirated liters is pretty impressive for a production bike)

Not everybody has $18,000 to buy a Duc and a turbo kit.

I love the specs... :) 123 bhp on such a light bike would probably kill me though... ;) That is a LOT of horsepower per pound..
