2003 server help

Just curious- my dads network uses this. I am just curious, the way it was setup, basically all the PC's in the network (theres only 3) are really locked up and basically to do anything you need an Admin password, which I have but its a pain. Also, i need to enable file sharing to share a printer, but it tells me to get Windows Firewall to configure it first. If I go into Windows Firewall it says that its getting its settings from the DC. Where abouts are the settings for this? I couldnt see this in the policy's on the server and half the settings that the PC's use (just security settings), I cant see these on the sever in the policies. I can ponly see a few things such as the My Documents redirect and things like that. I need to loosen this system up as updates cannot even be done. A quick way is to add the domain users to the admin group but Im just curious how to change it as well.

Many thanks

anyone please? come on this would be a really easy question for someone with some basic knowledge of windows server

thanks

You need to figure out which GPO those settings are coming from, there can't be that many places that it could be.

Are you looking at the right policy editor, there is a local one and a group one. If you go to AD, right click on your domain and do properties, then go over to the GP tab and click edit. Firewall is under Computer Config/Admin Templates/Network Conns/Win Firewall

The OP stated he's using GPMC. Right clicking a container or OU and going to the GP tab will just give you a button that launches GPMC if you have GPMC installed.

I'm always in awe when folks seeking help tell the helpers how easy the question is....

If you start modifying GPOs, I suggest you record EXACTLY what the old ones contain. Even better, create new GPOs that modify the policies as you wish and link them in the correct order so that the new modifications are the final settings. That way, you can quickly disable any changes that aren't doing what you desire.
