My girlfriend's driver's side window won't open. It's a four door model and all of the other windows work just fine.

Where would be the best place to start looking to solve the problem??

Check the switch first, if it is working and passing current, then it's probably the motor assembly, which can be relatively expensive.

Do you feel comfortable taking apart a door? It's not that hard, just a little scary when you have to pry the inner door panel off the clips holding it in place.

I did a '98 Olds over the winter to replace the motor/regulator it cost $90 (used).

Get a window regulator from eBay. Much cheaper than having the dealer repair it. As Squisher mentioned above, prying out the door trim *sounds* scary. Buy a trim tool for a few dollars and it'd be much easier to get the trim out.
