Well.....I took the plunge and bought a 2004 Cooper S in Chili Pepper Red with black roof/mirrors and black bonnett stripes yesterday! Problem is I have to wait until the first week of October to pick it up because they aren't starting production on the '04's until end of September

Amnesiac: I test drove a Base Cooper and it is still relatively peppy. Considering that it has 115hp and is much lighter (I think) than a comparably equipped Civic (which I own) it sure feels a lot more 'peppy'. Even the automatic is very responsive. Downshifting with the automatic is very quick (suprised me really). But if you can deal with the stick...the extra 2k is well worth the six speed and almost 45% more horsepower....not to mention the looks!
