2003 CALs and VPN question

Hi all,

A client of ours is asking about CALs for Server 2003, and if there is a difference between a VPN user license and a (proper?) networked PC license.

We've been unable to find anything on Microsoft's website, and the guy wants something in writing, preferably from MS themselves...

Can anyone provide a link or a reliable source? Perhaps one of the MS employees would care to comment? 🙂

Cheers!

Yes CALs are required for users connected over the VPN. CALs are not specific to the network medium.

It's pretty clearly layed out in the EULA and many of the MS licensing documents. Here is one example:

Thanks for that - it's not something we can give to the end-user (sadly), but we can say "Yes you need CALs" to them and point them there. They'll take one look and accept what we're saying 😀
