I actually like it.

And I don't think anything will ever be as ugly as the new Porsche SUV. Saw a few at a dealer down in Tallahassee a few weeks ago. Good lord. But then the 911 Turbo, twin M3's, and black C32 AMG (it was a joint Porsche/Mercedes/BMW establishment) on the lot made it all better. *Drool*

Wow, retro 'E36'-style headlamps. Pleasant surprise as I'd never thought that they'd make it back into a Bangle design. I like how they look on the E36 more though, considering the nose piece, kidneys and matching straight hood-line.

That interior really brings to mind the current E46, too (looks very 'sedan/coupe-ish') which I guess shouldn't be surprising as it uses the E46 chassis, right? Wonder how it rides... even if it handles like an E46 on stilts it shouldn't be too bad considering the pedigree. :D

I think the wagon might still make more sense for those wanting driving pleasure and looks while still retaining the more ample cargo space.

The E46 wagon is being dropped once the X3 comes out AFAIK. Read it in Motor Trend a few months back.

What a damn shame.

Looks really nice to me.

Any ideas on pricing? And are the rumours true that this thing is going to have more cargo space than the X5? LOL :D

From pics alone, you can see the hood is a bit lengthier than the X5 and it isn't quite as tall. Maybe it's just me, but ground clearance isn't as high either (guess it would look silly to be shorter, but the same height off the ground).

What it really looks like to me is an overgrown Z3.

<-- wondering on price too... cause I'll never be able to afford the X5/X7 (still in the works?) at this point...

EDIT>>> THESE PICS CERTAINLY SHOW IT IN A DIFFERENT LIGHT.
Don't know if this is a 2004 prototype, but it looks much shorter than you'd think from the original link.

The rear vs. side views are misleading.

Those pictures are of the fancy smancy concept vehicle...not the production model.

Man that screams "wannabe , please look at me" . Dammit I hate the Freelander , and I'm gonna hate this thing so much , so very very much.

As Triumph would put it , A wonderful car for me to poop on.

If I were BMW, I'd be paying very close attention to how the Land Rover Freelander has been selling in the US. The Freelander is another luxury, mini-ute. Its sales have been nothing better than horrible. X3 = dumb idea for the US market, IMO. The Toyota RAV4 does quite well in Europe, so it may have a chance there. Then again, the Audi A3 and A4 are stiff competition there too.
