Saw one of these at the local Subie dealer today. It's a silver one with a 5spd manual. Has 23,612 on the odo, turbo boost gauge above the steering wheel, body looks good, no dings, scrapes, has leather seats (aftermarket? Don't think they came in leather), balance of 3/36 warranty. Dealer is asking $19,995. Not too happy about the high miles for a 2002 but the car looks sweet. Any expensive maintenance needed at 30K? I wonder how the original owner treated that $1200 clutch...

That honestly seems too high. I have seen people get new stripped versions in the $22s.

Just get the imprezza wrx new. Since a 2002 car is either a demo, lemon, or something bad, since most off-lease cars aren't that new.

A new WRX isn't much more and given the clutch troubles Soobs have to begin with, you wouldn't want to take a chance on clutch abuse...especially AWD high-rpm clutch drops to get optimal launch times.

I personally think the Autos are a lot better, even on the WRXs....the AWD is much more sophisticated and the auto is far more reliable. It takes some fun out of driving, so the decision would be up to you.

The price of the used car is too high. You would be better off getting a brand new one and having known how the car was driven before you got it.

It does seem better just to get a new one.

"They" always tell you to buy a late-model used car so you don't have to take the initial depreciation hit but I end up always buying new cars because the used ones just aren't cheap enough. I guess people say that cars last 200K+ miles now so one with 23K is just getting started, but that also means 23K on the pricey tires, brakes, clutch...at least with a new one you don't have to replace squat for a good 2 years, which is helpful on your cash flow when making all those car payments.
