These are really neat little cars, but I imagine it will be quite a while before they are available at or below MSRP, and they do not seem like such a great deal for $2K over MSRP.

It's kinda hard to fit all those features, safety equipment, and robust structure and weigh much less than 2678 without the heavy use of aluminum which costs lots of $$$.

Oh man, I'd love one of these... :) I think the design is brilliant, but then again I love small cars. Now I just need to make a little more $$$$ ;)

You either get it or you don't - I think it is gorgeous.

Yeah- agreed. I think if North America will get off it's high horse of big trucks and craptastically built pony cars that they see as objects that make up for other things they don't have, the MINI will sell in spades (probably will anyway to people educated about these cars). I'd love to have one as a daily driver/runabout!! I'll take a MINI Cooper S in dark grey with the 17" alloys and sport package, please. :D

True but if/when there are Mini deals to be had I'll find them and just might ...

A loaded Mini Cooper S and the Maxima SE 6-Spd both sell for $36,000 here.

I know which one I would buy. :D

Same here. Unless you're having a mid-life crisis with a receding hairline, lovehandles and and having an affair with your 25 year old secretary the Maxima ownz the Mini-cooper!

Now I'm going to sleep before NFS4 goes to town on me why I'm wrong.

:p

theres sort of that same problem with the max se and the jetta 1.8T here... frankly the max is more appealing (i like mid size cars... how else do 4 of us get to new orleans and sleep in the car?)

What I don't understand is why people think that a person in the market for a Mini would consider a Maxima. They are two completely different types of vehicles. The buyers DON'T cross shop. That's like saying that a person buying a Tacoma would cross-shop an F-350. No fuggin' way.

A Mini buyer would most likely cross shop with a Toyota Matrix XRS or SVT Ford Focus. If people are buying for nostalgia alone, buyers would cross shop for New Beetles and PT Cruisers.

The Maxima doesn't even compute anywhere into this. I don't understand why the Nissan fanboys have to put the Maxima and Altima up against EVERY new car that comes out like they are THE benchmarks for any vehicle made. Inferiority complex? I think so :D

same price range so i cross shop them. really the 1.8T and the max/altima aren't the same category. the VW dealer tried to tell me that and i told him they were almost the same price anyway, and to get a passat with the same performance as a max you'd have to spend several K more.

I don't know of many Maximas around here for $20,000. As for "same price range, so I cross shop"...do you cross shop a Mini with a Tacoma, Dakota, Escape, Tribute, Xterra, Kia Sedona, Kia Sportage, Camry LE, etc? Afterall, they are in the same price range...

Hell no. Just b/c something is in the same price range doesn't make them competitors. You don't cross shop a $20,000 New Beetle with an Altima. And in 99% of peoples' minds, a Mini does not equate as a competitor to a Maxima.
